So I called a pest control company to renew a Termite Bond my home's PO had on the house... They came, gave me an estimate, and faxed me some paperwork to review and sign for approval. This was yesterday. The price was high so I decided to shop around but today I came home and they CAME (with out talking me) and performed the job (and made a mess too)....!! [/b]What should I do?

BEWARE!!! If you didn't actually sign anything and they are a bunch of shysters who came out and did the job anyway; and then you do NOT pay them, they will slap a lien on your property. That same thing just happened to a friend of mine. He needed some right-of-way surveying done within 2 days. He called a local surveying company, told them that he needed the survey within 2 days, and they said no problem. About a week later, they called him and said that his survey was ready. He told them that it was too late now. He never actually signed any kind of work authorization. A few weeks later he gets a bill in the mail from the survey company which he ignores. A few months later, he makes a deal to sell his property. A title search is done AND....guess what? The shyster surveying company had slapped a lien on his property for their bill!!! Turns out they are a bunch of local shysters who have pulled this stunt before. My friend had to anty up the payment for the bill just to get the lien lifted in order to close on the property. Of course he could file a suit against the survey company, but the legal bills and his time lost would cost more than the lousy bill payment. The shysters win again. Losers!!! If you actually signed something that authorized them to do the job, looks like you just got hosed with termite spray.

Just keep in mind that they could be "liening" on you without your knowledge and it might taint your credit report when it comes time to buy that new Ferrari.

The following is not legal advice!

Contracts class is already a little foggy, but it doesn't seem that you had any commitment on your end. Without a verbal contract or a written contract to rely on (you didn't give a verbal contract, did you??), you should not be liable for the service, as there were no mutually agreed upon terms. I seem to remember a case where a contractor started building before written approval, and then got stuck with the bill when the potential client proved no contract.

Nope, no verbal contract whatsoever. I'm going to call and complain tomorrow and hope they're willing to "work it out." I'd settle for 50% off.
