I'm getting ready to pull out my aluminum instrument panel (again) to fiddle with the lighting. While I'm there I'd like to check the amp meter after reading the fire risk from one that's not in good condition. What exactly should I look for/do to the amp meter to assure safety? Thanks guys!
Remove the wires from the amm. terminals and clean all mating surfaces with fine 600g paper, check wire ring connectors and remake if in [any] doubt. Reconnect wires to ammeter connections with new tab washers ( or split washers) Reassemble. Check wiring to see if it has got hot, if so check for any high resistances in the wiring loom from battery to firewall fuse. The connection on mine looked Ok untill it was twisted and it snapped off in my hand, after 40 years who could blame it!!
