There's not a whole lot I can say about this amazingly sexy arrival from Hill Engineering ! Finally, titanium wheel bolts are available that look great, weigh next to zilch, and cost far less than the Ferrari boxed set.

    I have them in 52mm (F355, 360, F430, 550, 575, 512TR) sizes in stock now. 55mm (348 comes in about a week).

They will not last long. One set is going onto my 355 Challenge wheels today, so I'll have some "installed" pictures tomorrow.

The bolts arrived in a boxed set, and include the proper removal tool. Enjoy !!

    Available now. Shipping today: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?cPath=600_544&products_id=343675

Just out of curiosity, how much do the standard OEM bolts weigh that people will be replacing? :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

4.8oz (134 grams) for a standard bolt. They are basically half the weight.

Those look nice.... but they don't have the separate captive conical washer that allows better, more accurate seating/torque down. That is what I have on my 360 from an Italian manufacturer (name starts with a G). That said, I don't know if they are still available or cost difference. I think I paid about $1k about four years ago.

The weight difference from stock is a lot!!! Plus they look great!!!!!

Don't forget to lube the threads and cone with an anti-seeze before installation.

    This is Nuts :D

The difference in cornering agility will be noticeable, 5.9 Pounds (2680 grams) vs. 2.95 Pounds (1340 grams) of undamped rotating mass!!!

I had a customer on the phone about an hour ago who questioned if these were really from Hill Engineering, or if we just soured them someplace else and crammed them into a red box! I tried to be nice.... but the answer is "YES, these come directly from Hill."

Here's what the bottom of each bolt looks like:

(If you're wondering why this bolt is marked 55mm instead of 52mm, it's because it's from the open package of bolts that are going onto my 348 with Challenge wheels tonight.)

    These DO FIT the 599GTB.

I apologize for not mentioning that in my earlier list. I'll update the website so it shows properly.

FWIW, I spoke to Paul this afternoon. Both he and I were just about cleaned out of stock between yesterday and today. I think he has a single set of 52mm left, and I've got a single set of 52mm left also.

I know there are more in production, but it might be a few weeks before our stocking levels are replenished.

Hotcakes at $50 each. What lengths we go to save 3 lbs. I must admit the coolness factor is quite high.

From what I can tell from this thread, it is double the savings if you are switching out the stock steel bolts.......Steve

Yes sir, you will be saving approx. 3 LBS to the stock steel bolts ;)

I have read (and would love to have a technical race person confirm this) that each pound of unsprung weight that you can reduce, is the equivalent of between 10-15 pounds of sprung weight. Other things show the number as high as 40, but I question those.

So, using the smallest number I can find... a savings of 3 pounds unsprung weight is like shaving 30 pounds of suspended weight from the vehicle. That is, to me, a significant number.

Can anyone who does professional race setup chime in here? I'm quite curious about the ratios because they also speak to CCM components, wheel configurations, etc.

I wouldn't call myself a professional racing driver because I am an every now and then Track Day driver. But I have been told by professional Racing Teams such as BMW M Power and Ducati Corse, that an unsprung weight of 1 KG (2.2 LBS) is equal to 4 KG (8.8 LBS) of sprung weight!

In this case, saving 1.3 KG (3 LBS) on the bolts is similar to saving 5.2 KG (11.5 LBS) somewhere else inside the car.
For example, getting rid of the radio unit and a couple of speakers. I wouldn't do that ;)

The idea behind this is pretty easy and can be explained by simple physics:

Take a disc-weight that weighs 5 KG (11 LBS) and try rotating it horizontally on a weight bar, you will notice that the disc will keep on rotating in the direction you have specified "Logical", do you want to change the direction of the rotation, then effort and energy are needed to achieve this change of direction.

Now take a disc that weighs 2.5 KG (5.5 LBS) and try changing its rotational direction, it will take you less energy and effort than the 5 KG (11 LBS) disc! Hence, easier change of direction agility is achieved by saving weight on rotating unsprung parts.

For us Non-Hardcore-Strip-To-The-Metal-Track-Day-Drivers, saving weight on unsprung mass such as lighter wheels, tires, bolts, disc brakes and getting rid of the unnecessary wheel spacers will make our cars more agile without loosing the comfort and beauty of a Non-Stripped-Interior, and will make the car as nimble as a cat :D

    Greetz,

    Joseph

PS: The cheapest way to reduce sprung weight is putting yourself on a strict diet . . . LOL

My thoughts exactly! Losing 20kilos, which I assume most Ferrari owners can afford to, is far more beneficial to the performance of your car. On top of tat, you'd look better too!
