Very good to know that the occupants are safe. Cabin is intact, most important!

Michelin Sport Cup 2, 1000hp, speed somewhere above 250Km/h and temperatures around 5 degrees celsius are usually not a very good combination....

Nobody gots hurt, which is quite a miracle considering how busy that Autobahn is.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people underestimate the type of rubber/compound and their working conditions...People (especially performance cars) should really be doing a like-for-like drive in cold conditions with supersport tyres vs winter tyres. The amount of extra grip available at low speeds is incredible.

I think various high powered vehicle manufacturers should program a limit to power based on tire temp. it seems like it would be easy to implement and pay dividends.

there're a zillion factors beyond tire temp that influence traction -- road surface, tire compound, tire wear, tire pressure, humidity, even suspension settings... let alone driver inputs to the car. luckily, this all is put together into a system that not only limits power, but even can apply brakes, potentially to just one wheel! it's called traction control! ;)

What a shame, because I can't imagine that car will be restored. Well, I guess it can be restored, but at what cost.

I don't understand German so I don't know what the police officer was saying, but what happened? That looked like a straight stretch of road.

Police officer considers it reckless driving at speeds of 300 km/h at midday on a three lane German Autobahn when there are other cars in traffic.

Just shows why a speed limit is needed

Cannot agree with this. Cars are inherently dangerous and no amount of regulation will change that fact.

Should we just regulate cars away because they are unsafe? Its the drivers fault. Not the car.

So if you are going down the motorway at 80, some idiot passes you doing 200 is not putting everyone else at risk ? Find a race track and you can do what you want.
We have motorway crashes in the uk, the pure carnage of a multi car crash is bad enough.

It's called common sense. God knows how many times I have violated the motorway speed limit, by huge margins. I was all alone though, not a single other motorist present. Having blanket speed limits though is downright stupid.

The only place that scared me was the Isle of Man. Seems like you are speaking from experience...

Lived in Frankfurt for a few years ...I knew a Dr B who commuted from Koln daily in his F1....hitting 200 MPH pretty much every day .He also was quite an experienced amateur racer. It's not scary IF you know what you are doing...

Its not yourself but the other people on the road, never understood why they still do not have a speed limit in germany.

We get a small % age of nut cases coming over for the TT, but the majority are fine. The speed limits on the open roads during the TT have been reduced a lot in recent years to try and stop the traffic accidents as the locals were getting fed up . They now have a 50/60 limit all the way to Ramsey, which has cut the accident rate by a huge amount. Mountain is still unlimited and one way. Generally shut 15 mins after it opens after another crash.

I drove on the Autobahn from the Netherlands down to Basel in September. Many sections had limits, and some of the unlimited sections had limits imposed due to road works.

In the unlimited sections I was cruising at 100 mph, moving with the general traffic stream. Occasionally the traffic cleared and I could go quicker. At no point did the speed feel risky.

Lane discipline is so much better than in the UK and the German test is harder than the UK one.

The other thing that needs to be borne in mind is that in any accident over 130kph speed will be considered to be a factor and could lead to prosecution.
