What you say intuitively feels right until one considers the 918. Equally heavy and still fun on a twisting road

I think its interesting that the car can only go 15 miles on electric power. Check this video out at mark 12:10:

Is that with VAT and if yes which rate? if yes it sounds like a bargain (independently of the fact I cannot afford it ;) )

Speaking of electric power only, what about reverse gear, which is electric (front motors/wheels) only, battery powered.

If the car is driven in full Qualify mode, max battery power (precedence to performance over battery replenishing) is used in combination with the ICE. Does this mean the battery is fully drained at some stage?

So what happens to reverse gear if, after full consumption of the battery in Qualify mode (and if the battery is fully drained), there is no power? No reverse gear? Need to drive around to charge the battery? Same question/logic would apply if using eDrive mode only, which would drain the battery eventually (25 kms max range).

    Am I missing something?

Also: does anyone have the 200kph-300kph times, which apparently are ICE only?

Surely Ferrari designed the electric motors to cut off well before the battery is fully drained - both to never be without reverse gear, and to limit depth of discharge for purposes of longevity. In a standard driving mode it, programmable logic keeping the battery capacity between 30-80% would likely maximize longevity.

That said, it sure would be preferable to have an actual reverse gear... 7 forward gears is plenty. And the weight saved from omission of the reverse gear has to be fairly insignificant, particularly since DCTs are in general far heavier than manual, automatic, and single clutch gearboxes.

Its not a "hybrid". It goes only 15 miles to make it legal in some Euro cities.

To me this makes perfect sense. Keep the battery weight and size to a minimum but use it for hard acceleration when needed.

I don't think I would ever get the opportunity to first of the rank with a new model from Ferrari. But even if i was somehow i wouldn't wont to be the owner of the first cars of the line. It takes a while for the rhythm to settle and debug any issues. Especially since the Ferraris are notorious with electrical issue with low batteries etc.
Compound the fact that other manufacturers are having problems with battery supplies e.g Audi. Ferrari will they make their own batteries ? or outsourced. And if they are they will most likely have the same supply issues.

Add this to the issue of EV. Audi has recalled their E-Trons due to fires. Caused because if the car gets wet it can get to the battery and start a fire.

Audi loosing it ? Don't they know their cars are driven in the rain and get wet ?

I personally would never buy the first of the line. Certainly don't want to be the guinea pig

No to hybrids. Then again all ICE cars are hybrids...they need an electric motor to start them..!!
