Since MANUAL cars are in such short supply, am thinking about going another route rather than waiting for the "perfect" car to show up in the pre-owned market. Found a pre-owned manual 997 in a blah OEM color that I am thinking to repainting to my color of choice. Painting would be done professionally, with Stuttgart bodyshop or equivalent. Lock card would also reflect change, confirmed by dealer.

Any thoughts on the impact this would have on resale. Dealer telling me no impact since paint color change would be reflected on lock card and no accident history, but thought I would check with y'all. I'm not as serial a car adulterer as say Lung :))), but would plan on swapping this out after a couple of years (2 max) so am curious on whether this would significantly impact resale. $5K - $10K impact I can take. Above that wouldn't make me a happy guy.

    Thanks.

Dont suppose its the black one. In any case, dont really think its as big an issue here in Singapore so long as one can confirm that it wasnt repainted as a result of an accident. No way 5-10k would be pulled off the price for a colour change. If its redone at Stuttgart, the history would then allow you to confirm to a prospective buyer that it was not a result of something more sinister.

Basically if its yours and you want to respray, go for it, resale in a non original colour is no big deal for Porsche's here- quite a few 996s were also redone, the zanzibar red GT3 to black etc etc.

But if you respray at the very least go for a colour not available as a standard colour on the 997- sort of makes it more worthwhile.

    Thanks for your thoughts Harold.

The one I'm talking about it not black. But if you do know a black 6-speed 997 for sale, please PM me.

    Thanks.

Well Vik as we've spoken earlier it's not a big deal if you're willing to take a hit. Buyers will question the colour change=accident but you can always back that up with proper records to proof. You will however find problems when exporting (so will your buyer) it but you can always respray it back to the original color.

I think there's a colour plate on the chassis?

You can notify Lta about the colour on the logcard.

There are still loopholes to find the factory paint unless you have a stripped out paint job which won't make sense.

As mentioned, not too ideal to do it on a pre 10yr old car but since finding one that fits your specs is so tough let's waste that extra $10k, 2way job :)

Thx Jon. I'd actually likely get this done through Stuttgart's local bodyshop and documented appropriately (including before and after pics), so getting the right paint codes shouldn't be an issue.

May not get everybody comfortable but it's about as transparent a methodology as possible me thinks.

Hi Vik, on the other hand I love that OEM colour, it will be my 1st choice colour if I do order a 997. The owner is a friend of mine who recently bought a G.

I think it is silly to change colour for a car that is so new. The actual colour of the car will still be reflected on the colour plate under the bonnet.

    my 2 cents.

Vik, maybe you should just drive it for a few months as it is (if you buy) the colour may just grow on you or you might see something else you fancy :D

I just saw a current BM 5 series in my carpark. It has the same pearl orange as my Gallardo, with some bodykit, M5 rims & black roof. Kind of "SE edition look" or is it that Schnitzer M6 inspiration? This is one wild colour to use on a BMW.

That's why this world is so much fun to live in Phil...'cause its different strokes for different folks. - :D

BTW, your friend definitely knows how to have fun with his cars given the mileage on this one in the last year! How many sets of tires has he gone through? - ;)

As for the color change, I have nothing to hide and plan on being fully upfront with any potential buyers after me. I just want to know the impact on resale value. In the US, a repaint - regardless of reason - automatically knocks off 10% - 15% of the value you would get for the car otherwise - more if there is an accident associated with the repaint (obviously, not an issue in our case). It seems based on the (limited) comments on this board, that the impact is more muted here, which is pleasantly surprising. But the jury's still out.

Thanks for the PM. Shot you one back.

I'm going to wait for the facelifted '09 G and then indent a MANUAL one when they become available. - :D

Of course, if you know if any manual G spiders today for sale...hook a brother up!
