Hi Guys: Just thought you may want to know that on the weekend of June 10th there will be racing at the Shanghai Circuit. Main event is the Aussie V8, supporting races will include Asia GT, Formula Renault, etc. My team mate and I will be campaigning two 360 Challenge in the Asia GT series, along with a Stradale from another HK driver, we will be competing against a sea of GT2s and GT3s. So it should be interesting. In round 1 & 2 back in April, 360 Challenge has proven to be very good under braking at SIC, but it suffers from bad understeering coming out of the big right hander before the back straight. With improved front aero package, some suspension adjustments, and a change of tire choice, we are optimistic we will do well. If you guys are in Shanghai try to make it out to the track. It should be a great weekend of racing. Regards, cwwhk
Good luck and make us proud! There certainly are not enough Ferrari owners campaigning their cars in Asia. Racing on the Shanghai circuit sounds like great fun.
Asianbond: Thanks, I'll try my best. Hopefully two other Stradale owners will make it to this race. It will be refreshing to see some Ferraris instead of the usual Porsches. eddiechang: Change to softer front roll bar, increase slightly rear ride height, and install anti-squat pins at rear.
Good luck at the race! Here are some pics of one of the cars that I think will be racing with you, just so people can see how beautiful they are in race livery... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What's the actual day of the race? I've got round 2 & 3 of the Lotus challenge at zhuhai on the 17th so I might be able to sneek up to shanghai to see the GT race. I'll be supporting Tom Cham in his Elise though....
good luck with your racing ! I've read that with the 360 , a couple more degrees of camber at the front does wonders for the understeering. do a search for recent posts by 'ferrarifixer' , I think , he gave a good account for why this is necessary. Nice to read about people who actually driver their cars , for a change. cheers !
Yes, that's Philip's Stradale. Very nice with the 360 GT front splitter and rear wing. His car has about 30hp more but race R&R stipulates that my 360 Challenge has to race with 20kg weight penalty. Go figure that one out. In April's 1st round at Shanghai, Philip qualified 3rd and I qualified 4th. However we both lost 4 places at the start due to F1 shift's inability to launch the car effectively. I spent the rest of the race chasing after Philip and all the Porsches ahead. Every lap I can catch right up to them under braking but then would fall behind 30 meters due to understeer at the big right hand bend before the back straight. Hopefully I have cured this problem and can give them a run for the money in June.
Thanks for the tip. Phil WAS my race engineer at Shanghai's first round. We tried the camber, but did not seem to matter too much as checked by tire temperature. All the adjustments I have made since that race are recommendations from Phil.
And here are some pictures from the April race at Shanghai. Tentative schedule shows 6/10 Fri qualify 6/11 Sat race 1 and 6/12 Sun race 2. You should make it up there. It's a fabulous track. On a separate matter, I am trying to sign up to HKAA's Charity GT at ZIC scheduled for July. Tried to sign up for May, but due to lack of entries May races at ZIC was cancelled. Probably because all the GT cars were at Shanghai. Hopefully July races at ZIC will go ahead. Please help and spread the word and get people signed up to race their F cars at ZIC.
Spicey and I can help turn wrenches for you while you are in town if you need an extra set of 4 hands.
That's where I was having a problem too. Not mechanical, but simply just unfamiliar with the track, and I also couldn't see my exit point because the "A"-pillar always seemed to be in the way! Yes! Best of luck to you! It'll be nice to see a Ferrari win for a change.
I've been for F1 but not driven on the circuit yet. Was going to attend the supercarclub track day but did'nt have time. Re the HKAA GT, is it an actual race? rules and regs? i guess I could ask Max at the AA, or andy for that matter. I only know 2 other F Car owners and neither of them would dream of tracking their cars....
mmm.....cant imagine tracking in my spyder!! anyway i just located a 97 yellow 355 hardtop, so if i can get someone to buy my spyder i will definitely go for this one (pls PM me if anyone is interested!) then u will see me on the track......
hi mate, actually i was referring to two colleagues. i was'nt sure if you guys would be interested. it seems to be a race, not a trackday...
ooppppsss!!! mmm...... anyway always interested in track events......race?? maybe i should wait until i get a hardtop!!
There are two racing lines depending on how your car handles. One you swing out completely and take a late apex where the pole is. The other you only go half way out then swing back in. Thanks for the encouragement. Realistically I'll just try for a podium finish. It will be very tough to beat Mathew Marsh in his GT2 with a lot more HP.
It's supposed to be a real race, but HKAA has not released any R&R so I do not know what state the car has to be in in order to be eligible for entry. Yes, talk to Max. It would be fun if you can sign up.
Thanks for your generous offer to help. I wish Shanghai F dealer is as enthusiastic. Contacted them and offered to pay for mechanical support and got the cold shoulder. I guess cars must be flying out of their showroom to turn down paying customers and a chance for some PR exposure. Sad thing is that Shanghai dealership is partly Ferrari owned. In any case we will have at least 3 mechanics to support our two 360C. Unfortunately, this time around we won't get a proper pit, which are all allocated to the Aussie V8s. So we will be behind the pits in temporary tents. It will be interesting to see how we are going to fit 20' container worth of parts and equipment into a tent. Please PM me with your contact tel #. If I can get extra pit pass it will be fun to have you guys come by and get your hands dirty.
His GT2 was the actual car I was driving on the track day on the 14th/15th of May. I couldn't really feel the power (maybe because my a$$ is too damn fat), but it truly revealed itself when I started flying past cars like they were standing still! For those who don't know the car we're talking about, here is a picture of me driving my friend around on the 14th when we got rained out: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Don't forget that you have a truly world-class track in Sepang my friend, which you can drive to and drive on a lot of the time!
