The other night my wife and I went for dinner and as we pulled up to the restaurant, I could see one of the wait staff scurrying to the window to see what all he was hearing. As we approached the front door it swings open and the same young man is holding the door with a big grin on his face. I thanked him for opening the door and he complimented the CS. I thanked him again and that was that.... so I thought.

No sooner had we sat down when I the same young man appeared, smiling once again. This time he was excited to tell me that his dad had a 458. I asked him how he liked it. He then told me that his dad was an avid car collector. He kept all of them in a hanger and he was never even allowed to sit in any of them. I was a bit shocked at that and I asked him if he and his dad went for rides. He said that he had never been for a ride and his dad only takes it out every few weeks, by himself.

How one could have a son (who likes cars), and not share the experience, is beyond me. Once I processed this I said to the kid, "If it's OK with your boss, when we're done with dinner, you are going for a ride..... if you want"! His grin got bigger and he nodded his head.

After dinner, I wondered if he was around. He was ready and waiting. We hit the road for a short, but brisk ride. It turns out that he had never been in a Ferrari before. He thanked me over and over and from what I understand from the restaurant's owner, he hasn't stopped talking about it.

Half the fun of these things is sharing the experience. I strongly recommend doing it.

+1 seeing a kids reaction is worth the price of admission.

Great story and very kind of you. He will remember that forever (especially an unforgettable CS!) When I own one hopefully soon, I plan on doing the same things. I have been given rides by generous owners and returning the favor is something I am greatly looking forward to.

I wouldn't have the cars that I have if it weren't for the fun of sharing it with my sons. I agree that sharing with others makes the hobby more fun. They've driven in all of them, even if we have to get creative.

I couldn't agree more about sharing the Ferrari experience. Whenever I bring my Ferrari to the local car show I bring a welcome mat and leave the driver's door open...any kid who wants to sit in my 328GTB is welcome to do so as long as they remove their filthy shoes!

The photo below is of my 4 year-old nephew, Lawrence, who is already a true car enthusiast. He'll be the guy buying your classic car from you in thirty years.

    Great story.

Sharing the experience is a large part of ownership.

The boy's father is one of the most selfish human beings on the planet.

That's just crazy. I can't imagine a father not wanting to share the experience and ownership with his son.

I'm wondering if that was the kids standard story to get free rides from exotic owners? Lol.

Nonetheless, a great story and I agree about sharing the experience!

I'm glad I'm not the only cynic who thinks the boy's story is total BS or there's more to that story that he's not telling.

Great to hear you took him for a ride mate, well done and I would have done the same thing also. You have a big heart man.

I have taken countless friends for drives, friends kids and even some strangers who just love my 348.

Have even given a few of those guys a drive also, definitely something they will never forget and hopefully it will convince them to buy a Ferrari also.

Here are some random friends and a stranger behind the wheel.

**I always take a few pics and send it through to them as a keep sake or so they can show their family and friends if they don't believe them lol**

I tend to be 'serial sharer'. Here's one with a contractor that was over for an estimate..... and he didn't give me the "Ferrari in the garage price"!

He fell in love when we went in the garage, so I pulled it out and let him sit in the driver's seat...
