I can do this easily

In May of 2008, I received a brand new F430 spider. I originally asked for it from Ferrari of Beverly Hills in 2005. I waited that long and was very happy to have it.

In August of 2008, I was at Olympics in Beijing and really struggling. I was very weak and had some aches and pains. I got back to the states and it was no better. I walked into the hospital emergency room on September 2st, 2008

On Sept 3rd, 2008, I had a quad heart bypass.

About 2 weeks later I was released from the hospital. Believe me, I was still in really bad shape with bags and stuff hanging off or me and could barely walk. Every day I struggled just to walk a few steps and get stronger.

Then I set up a goal.

My goal was that I would get well enough so I could actually drive that F430 again. It became an obsession. Now, with your chest and legs cut open that's no easy feat to fit in that car. But after about a month, I got dressed trying to "look normal" and went downstairs and got in the car. It must have taken me 5 minutes to get in. It hurt like hell. I started the car and put down the roof. I drove it around the block for maybe 5 minutes and then parked it.

THAT was my best Ferrari drive ever.

In July of 2007 I drove from Austin Texas to Vienna WV.

The first 2 hours were under a clear sky. {This might be a good time to mention the tires had <maybe> over 1/16" of tread.} As I neared Dallas, the skies opened up and for the next 2 days I drove in 2" per hour rain on slicks. Every puddle on the interstate was trying to put the back of the car in front of the front of the car. It was absolutely terrifying. I could hardly sleep and felt like I had drunk 35 cups of coffee, yet had consumed none.

It took an entire day of cleaning, vacuuming, and dressing to bet the road grime out of the car.

 

My first ever drive in a Ferrari. The Mondial I bought. It was a private sale and I never expected the owner to let me drive it.

I'll remember that for a long time to come.
The day I picked it up a couple of weeks after that memorable drive. I have never smiled like that since.

Quite the story teller, I mean that in a good way

 

Beginning of the week was a great drive for 2 1/2 days with mate's in northern NSW.

I only took pics of the important cars,there were some porkers there but I didn't waste pixel time on them.

Why ... today!

Backdrop: Northern California has been going through the wettest winter in decades - certainly, unprecedented in my memory.

So, today, we had a beautiful, sunny day.

It was a Friday, and I had a hearing in Santa Cruz in the morning, a telephonic appointment late morning, and appointments in Oakland in the afternoon.

Sooooo .... I drove the Mondial down to Santa Cruz (those of you not from California: it is a well known local beach town) then drove up highway 1 (for non-Californians, this is a legendary coastal highway) stopping periodically to take in the view.

At one vista point, saw a girl who was doing some modeling, and offered the Mondial as a prop. She jumped at it, and took a whole bunch of pictures.

Then drove up the coast some more, took Highway 84 through the mountains, took 92 (for non-Californians, this is one of four bridges that crosses the San Francisco Bay) across the Bay, then up to Oakland.

Beautiful day, and a great reminder of just how fortunate I am.

I've driven several Ferraris. A Ferrari drive you can never forget is when you have the exclusive opportunity to take one of the rare ones out. Friend and Ferrarisi Henry Tran threw me the keys to one of his prized Ferrari's, the 512m, which is, my all time favorite Ferrari.

The one characteristic that made this memorable is the rarity of the M, not everybody will ever get a chance to drive one. The second is, the pure raw power of a racing brand Testarossa, the positive, sure feel at speed, and of course, the sound of that Boxer 12.
I have driven this car multiple times. Never had the experience grown dull or just ordinary, everytime was a thrill, because frankly, some Ferraris are more special than others.

road trip to go to a great friend's birthday party in North Carolina. 1,100 mile loop. Went south along the coast and then back North up through blue ridge mountains. Deserted triple digit speed swamp roads; fun twisty roads; cute towns. Only one speeding ticket. Down in NC, buddy put our car in his garage and let us use his smart car for a couple days at the beach. Great party for his birthday. fun tip in his Pinz on the beach.

Mine was at the tender young age of 16. Took the Mondial QV Cabriolet (mostly my Dad's car) with two friends down to the restaurant/bar in a town called Watsonville my "not yet" girlfriend worked in. She and my friends were a little older than me - 21. We ate, drank, and had a great time, all on the house. Then at midnight when she got off we all piled back into the Mondial and headed back up Hwy 1 to her house in Aptos. It was a beautiful cool night so along the way, I decided to gun it (which everyone else was in favour of). So we did most of the drive back along a deserted highway with the top down under a clear night sky in excess of 115 mph, all of us laughing with joy the whole time. And then later that night I lost my virginity.

 

I love that there are so many Mondials in this thread!

 

Summer 2010. Started in DesMoines IA. Drove up to northern IA then across SD to Rapid City. Spent 5 days driving around the Black Hills. Then over to Red Lodge Mt. Took the Bear Tooth over to the east enterance of Yelloestone. Drove thru Yellowstone up to Missoula. Then went over to Spokane. Then over to Bellingham WA. Put the car on the Alaska Marine Highway up to Haines. Then up to Haines Junction to join the ALCAN up to Delta Junction (where the ALCAN ends). Then the rest of the way to North Pole. 3600 miles with the wife and two kids and all of our luggage in what at that time was a 35 year old Ferrari.

 

The one I will be taking soon after everything I finish fixing everything..
