Yes that can happen with tempered glass. Most likely a small minor damage on the edge of the glass combined with slight strees in the glass started this disaster. Nice color on your car!

    Best regards Peter

    Nothing Dino or Ferrari specific.
Can happen with any type of vehicle and potentially caused by numerous reasons, it's glass.

could also be a restoration problem....
the lower edge of the door glass sits in a runner which holds the glass to it with two bolts going through the glass... if the these two bolts are fasten too tight this can cause too much tension on the glass....

Happened to me, too. Be careful with the replacement glass - not all glass is the same!

So if the car is in a safe and secure location, is it a good idea to have the door windows cracked open just a bit to avoid extra pressure on the glass? Fitting replacement door glass to these cars is a nightmare because of their curvature. I know because it took about 4-5 different windows to find one that fit my M-series Dino after the original broke in a shop `accident' a couple years ago.

I have nothing to add about the window, but the color of your car is the same as mine. Only difference is that my car has a black interior. Is that the original color?

To remove, carefully cover the glass with tape inside and out to keep it together.

Yes, i believe its the original color interior. I am going to tape both sides of the glass very carefully...any suggestions on where to source a correct replacement?

Peter is right, with a slight stress and if the window motor is pushing the glass against the window frame as in too much pressure, it can shatter.

Not just vehicles. Had the same thing happen with a shower screen a few years ago. No apparent cause - just happened.

Instead of using tape, you could use what we in Australia call contact film, which is adhesive on one side of plastic sheets that you use to cover note books for school. Comes in rolls about 50cm wide that way you can cut roughly to shape for the inside of the window, and stick around the edges first, then do the outside. Then once covered using light pressure press the sheets onto the glass. This stops glass dust or splinters and makes it safer and easier to remove the glass.
