Amazing how beautiful yet revealing that SoCal sunshine is. In the picture of the driver's rear quarter panel, what exactly are we looking at...is it just buckled steel or is there something on top of it, like lead? Thanks, John in CT.

It's all metal as the bond is gone. It appears to have been damaged at some point.

For your interest the Dino in the foreground is 07012 next chassis number to yours, still owned by same owner. I took the pic in 1977. The car in the background has been the subject of a recent thread and will be soon returning to the UK. I will start a new thread at that point.

Hey Jon, what has been your solution when having to replace the upper steering column universal joint (nearest to the steering wheel)? I know they are NLA so the only solution I've thought of has been to have one custom made by one of a couple manufacturers. Wondering what you might have had to do. Thanks!

Heh, very lucky indeed. They like to get just a touch of play on them and I swear it ruins the steering experience. I've had to replace two, the first time I magically found a NOS unit and with those you have to drill the holes yourself for the interference pin. The second time I had one made and it was fantastic but mercy was it a pain locating a company to do the job. If I remember right the bore was something like 17.5mm. One day we'll probably learn it comes from some random Fiat truck.....here's hoping for a better solution one day!

Fantastic work Jon, wonderful details, thanks for sharing!

I have seen a few dinos in bare metal and each has had the rear quarter panel "not exactly" line up with the door edge requiring a lot of factory lead work there. I wonder if that is what may be contributing to yours?

Why wouldn't you replace the Facet label on the fuel pump with a proper Bendix (repro) label?

On this particular car it was black. I've seen a few this color mostly early cars. Is it correct?? apparently on this car.

The FISPA cannister on #04054 was original when I bought the car and it was black. The Fuel pump was original as well with the sticker BCD Torino on it. I bought a NOS FISPA cannister that was black as well.

So for this particular Dino, should the pump be a BCD or the Facet (aka Bendix replacement) shown in Jon's photo?

as far as I know the Fispa fuel filter have originally been gray for all 246 GT/GTS...
two different prints, I have both as decals....
black ones are from later production or have been painted black later....

btw early E-series had no Fispa fuel filter.....

I have a NOS fuel pump just like that one. Is that correct for the early Dinos.

Early Dino's (L's & M's) definitely used a pair of Bendix fuel pumps with a FISPA glass bowl fuel filter/regulator (see pic). The BCD fuel pump came sometime after the M-series was done...perhaps Matthias can clarify when the transition took place.

Iain, looks painted to me, should be grey original....
the lid of the fuel filter was always metall colour, never painted, even with the later black fuel filter....
the fuel pump was never black, also looks painted.... and mounted up side down...
the middle part of the fuel pump was gray too, later pumps was black (see picture of nos)
