    Reading over Sheehan's article on the Dinos and 308s, I was surprised to find the standard A/C (according to Sheehan) was missing from my early 1972 US Dino 246 GT 02984. How could that have happened? Was also surprised to learn there were no rust problems with 308s, since my 1978 308 GTS 25125 had both doors rust through. Maybe he was confused about when Ferrari's extensive rustproofing was introduced? 1983, IIRC.

    Seem to find inaccuracies like this in all his articles.

    is that you in the fighter pilot get-up? looking through the ownership stuff of my dino, the first two owners were pilots-USAF, and RAF...i don't think it must get any better than that, flying fighter planes and driving a dino...

    It seems it KILLS him to say the Dino has "modest appreciation potential" or something to that effect. He flat out state the 308/328 will NEVER appreciate because the newer cars will keep a lid on them.

    I'm sure thats exactly what is said about most old cars that are the the nadir of their value.

    I'm sure everyone just knew the little crappy rusty $8000 246 Dinos were on a one way street to the crusher back in the mid 1980s.


    I see no reason that 308s might not get more collectable and rise some.

    In fact, I think it may have already started.

    Phil- Yes, flying F-111Ds at Cannon AFB, NM. F-111s are all retired, and so am I, but it was great fun. Photo from 1978 and the car was traded that year for the Daytona.

    Bryan- Quite a few war stories down in the aviation section. Most of us would have paid to fly fighters, if we had any money, which most of us did not. I certainly did not. Ferraris were just not that expensive in those days. I took the Dino for $10,600 instead of the 250 LM for $9800 that Kurt White had for sale. Hindsight says I was wrong.

    I think they will appreciate. They only made so many of them and as Michael himself has said, the new ones are computers with wheels made in larger numbers that will have no value once Ferrari stops making the microprocessors that keep them going.
    A certain percentage of the population will want a Ferrari that offers a manual gearbox and doesn't have hydraulic and electronic gizmos to get between them and the machine. As the number of people in China and India who can afford one grows, so will the value.

    I bought a crappy, delapidated, non running L series Euro 246 in 1983 for 8 grand. A good one at the time ran about 16 to 18 (which was a crazy price --- you could get a good Pantera for about 12).

    I was told any number of times by "Ferrari" guys it will never appreciate -- EVER. I sold it for 60 after keeping it 15 years. Not a bad deal I would say because I bought a crappy 308 for 18.

    Other than M. Sheehan, who knows what the point is of his articles at the time they are being written, and I don't mean this to be disrespectful - it is just that he is in the middle of so many transactions at any one time - trying to source cars while trying to find buyers . . . .
