http://www.shelby-cars.com/GT500E.htm what do you guys think??......i luv this car, thinking about picking up a Super Snake package.........any imputs?? of course i'd have mine in Black with Silver stripes..... Image Unavailable, Please Login
not to sound like an *******, but Mr. Shelby is getting old, and being the betting man that I am, once he passes, I'd bet that the price of these car is going to go way up in just a few years!!!!
Go for it dude!! Always liked the Shelby and saw Eleanor with Mr Cage like 3 times for chase scenes. The grey finish is not too bad too, a touch of class in a menacing way, IMO.
That 500E looks hot. I drove another "500E" here in DC at Cherner Classics and it was less than impressive. This one had a lower comp 302 that was built for a blower. But...this one didn't have the blower. It was...slow...which is to be expected for an engine with 8:1 compression and something like 3400lbs of weight. With the right powertrain, it would be a lot of fun. LS
probably could be a fun car. i think id take mine in black with gold stripes. or possibly blue with white
looks really good. Do Shelby make these things from new shells or are they based on restored old mustangs ?
Unique Performance builds them. Shelby endorsed. They are built using real Mustang shells. Then fully restored. They basically start from plain jane mustangs of 67.
How about, a genuine Ford Mustang has been sacrificied for some gawdawful rebody. I would be laying my coin down for a genny 68 GT500 long before an Eleanor clone. Erich
The supersnake looks great! But i would love to have a bigblock 502 with a blower (ie pictured below) but thats just me. p.s Anyone have pics of a black with silver stripes? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Shelby's are great. I have an uncle who's owned about three of them including the 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX-4000 which is still and always will be my favorite (and his as well) However I have to say I don't particularly like the looks of this one. If you want one definetly go for it I believe my uncle is looking to buy a 500 as well, Hopefully he will!
Love the Shelby Mustangs from the late 60's. My favourite stock Mustang would have to be the '67 Fastback.
They had an episode on TLC or Discovery taking you through the building of the cars. My only issue is that they don't go out of their way to find and rebuild extremely clean cars. The one they restored was a complete rust bucket. Yes they replaced the quarters, fenders, florrs etc.... but I just remember them spreading a ton of bono on the car to smooth out all of the imperfections. It just didn't seem like a frame off restoration done by pro's in my opinion.
I think for 160K you would be stupid to buy one of these obvious attempts by Carroll Shelby and Unique Performance to cash in on the "Eleanor/Gone in 60 Seconds" craze by building what amount to imitation Shelby Mustangs. Weather Shelby endorses the things or not they are still not real Shelby Mustangs. Looking at the market it seems that you should be able to find a REAL 1967-68 Shelby GT-500 for about the same price, if not less depending on the seller. I know that a few months ago a classic car dealership in Houston (right up the road from Ferrari of Houston) had a 68 GT-500 in highland green with the white stripes priced at about 150-160K. If I remember correctly it was an all origional, numbers matching car. Just remember if you are looking to buy the car for investment potential then the REAL Shelby Mustangs will ALWAYS command more money than these phony "continuation" things that Shelby is OBVIOUSLY slapping his name on just to make a buck. You also might want to keep in mind that most of the die hard Mustang/Shelby guys view these "continuation" cars about the same way that Ferrari guys view kit car Daytona spyders. If the thing was priced under 50K then I could see the value, but being that it costs as much (if not more) than a real Shelby I think you would be stupid to give these guys your money.
I agree. In fact this one is holding me over until I can afford an F-car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Talk about hitting a nerve! My husband was in the process of purchasing a GT500E Super Snake from Unique Performance dealer in North Carolina this past November- price was $250,000, they wanted the money sent in full up front, last one, had someone cancel, car available. They worked so fast, talked so fast, when my husband finally put the brakes on and said he did not do business that way, they called him all day long, sent emails. After a week of phone calls, they came down to $229k. My husband finally told them no and not to call again. Leslie
Checking ebay I found a 67 GT-500, dark green with the white stripes. According to the seller it is a well documented car and in the Shelby Registery. Right now the bidding is at $167,900 and the reserve has not been met, which does not suprise me as this is being sold by a dealer and not an individual. At any rate even if the reserve is 200K then that is still a better value than forking over anywhere north of 150K for one of these Unique Performance Mustangs. Just out of curiousity Les, what kind of ride did the husband end up going with after the Super Snake episode? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1967-Shelby-GT-500-Fastback-4-Speed-Documented_W0QQitemZ4600685678QQcategoryZ6465QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The pricing for these Unique Performance cars is one of the most amusing things I have seen in a long time. Thanks for the laugh.
Well my husband hasn't bought himself anything "yet" but he did by me a 2005 CTS V for my birthday in November, so he is still shopping. Leslie
It will be intersting to see how the value of these cars holds up as they age. I predict that when muscle car prices begin to fall, these cars will be dropping a lot harder
