I was going through a box of film photos with the thought of getting them saved in a digital form. I am unsure of many of the details surrounding this car. There is another member here that was more involved in the racing scene at the time that might be willing to provide more information.

A group called "Hawaiian Grand Prix Partners" was going to bring a group of the Shelby Can-Am spec racers over and hold a race in the stadium parking lot. I remember Derek Daley's name being connected with the project. The race never happened.

At that time, it seems there were auctions several times a month: estate sales, bankruptcies, store liquidations. The normal fare was tools, equipment, computers, jewelery, collectibles. This car was at one of the auctions being sold to cover debts left from the Grand Prix group.

About this time, there was another attempt to bring the Shelby series over to run a race out on Ford Island as part of the annual hydroplane racing festivities. That race never happened either.

After checking into the racing series, I felt that it was not going to be a long term success and sold the car. A local gentleman bought it and took it back to the mainland and entered it in several events. I don't think that he had much luck with the car. I think the series only ran for another season or two.

    Hi Kris

Yes, it is my GTV. It is before I got the alloy wheels and it kind of shocked me to see how little rust is showing. I should be tied to the mainmast and flogged...;>)

Well, at least I can't be accused of making a hanger queen out of it.

I believe Pete Brock designed that car. One of the best looking sports racers to my eye, but I couldn't get excited about the Dodge v-6.

    Hi Dennis

No. I am sorry that I do not know Mr. Brown. I do know that he was not at this location.

correct. series was intended to mimic the success of the spec renault series but with a faster car. the cars were priced at north of $45k w/ virtually no takers. the car was similarly priced as an atlantic but was a dinasour comparatively.

there are still several out there for sale every now and then.
