    I heard froma F_car dealer that this stuff, marketed in Europe is Baloney and just and indication of the vigor in licensing the ferrari name. It seems that Ferrari does not have any petroleum engineers that really do engineer gasoline and that pretty much any gas with proper octane and standardized properties will work ina ferrari and you don't need "Ferrari gasoline" ( he says this now...wait untill the dealers start selling SHell V "ferrari gasoline" and we hear about how much we all need it in our F-cars for more HP.

    I guess Shell has discovered how much people are willing to pay for gas and are stunned and are really going for it with Shell V...I don't kknow how much costs or where they are selling it.

    Specifically this part: "The improved formulation features higher octane (99 RON), higher detergency and use of Shell's unique Friction Modification Technology, as used by the Ferrari Formula One team in its 2006 Race fuel", then check this one for more info on how it works:

    2) Ferrari have never claimed to have petroleum engineers in-house, hence the 80-some years of partnership with Shell. After all, the Anglo-Dutch company knows a bit about oil...

    3) V Power doesn't give any better BHP, but it is a higher octane fuel than regular petrol, so it will give a better performance return than standard 97RON that we get in Europe.

    4) The detergents in the fuel burn more efficiently than others - this even yields a benefit to cars that are not mapped for higher octane fuels (with knock-sensors set for 97RON and below) in cleaner fuel delivery, reduced fuel deposits in the cylinder and improved fuel efficiency.

    5) Shell have never marketed V Power as 'fuel for Ferraris' - rather, it's marketed as "developed in conjuction with Ferrari" which is true.

    6) It's available at every Shell petrol station I've visited in the UK, France, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany, so it's not hard to find over here.

    7) It retails in the UK at a premium of around 2 pence per litre (or 20cents per gallon roughly).

    8) it's also been tested by various magazines against rival fuels, so your dealer might like to do a little research before suggesting a very successful product is essentially 'marketing bull$hit'. Similarly, I'm sure that Ferrari would be rather displeased to hear an official dealer was denegrating the co-branded product of a licenced partner to clients in the dealership!

    From what I have heard Shell is suposedly horrible gas. Might as well fill up w/ Arco! ;-)

    Interesting... your source for this? Unsubstanitated comments are not particularly useful.

    Shell's profits and turnover make it a significant player in the world oil market - market forces refute your comment.

    Shell's history of involvement with Ferrari (11 world titles in recent years) refutes your comment.

    Audi's pioneering R10 Diesel Le Mans win with Shell's fuel & assistance refutes your comment.

    This quote from a UK petrolium trade magazine also refutes your comment:

    "“We’re focusing on fuels and playing to our strengths. Shell Optimax [previously name for V Power in UK market only] does work and it works in the eyes of customers. We know because it sells. It has double-digit penetration of our overall fuel sales, and a very high per-centage of the premium market share. It’s well in excess of the business plan."

    The fact that V Power is a success in the eyes of pretty much every intelligent business analyst, marketing strategist or advertising executive refutes your comment.

    Thanks for posting, but perhaps a little more thought and consideration might help to make this an intelligible debate and an insightful thread.

    I love it when Brits call it petrol, its funny.
    note:Everything made of Petrolium could be called petrol. The fake rubber on your shoes, Vynle, synthetic fibers in your cloths, plastic, all are made of petrolium. BTEX(benzine, Toluine, etheline, Xyline...sorry for the spelling) is very specifically what Gasoline is made up of.
    as far as Octane
    It gains you nothing IF the engine isnt pinging. It simply slows down the combustion rate. It especially wont do anything if the engine computer isnt designed for or expecting the higher octane...its like buying expensive air

    I have been using this since launch in my Ferrari and the car definitely feels more responsive in the midrange. I have also used it in my other cars and likewise the there is definitely a crisper feel to the performance.

    I'm happy with it.

    And Corona is on sale this week!

    You should look at getting a new F-Car dealer, if he is spewing out this rubbish about petrol he obviously out of the loop, who knows what other baloney he spins to clients :confused:

    Shell V-Power = marketing term for "premium unleaded" based from Ferrari/Shell partnership from F1. Each country will have a different octane level but it varies from 98-100RON. (in USA you guys use MON, not RON soo those numbers are different, unless its changed recently).

    All the major companies offer similar products again with "funky names".

    It has been proven many times in various tests that these high octane fuels give more power with less engine knock, are a higher density fuel therefore are lower fuel consumption and some have added detergents that keep clean engine parts.
    While with each brand the results will differ the difference from the "cheapest" unleaded anything from 91-95RON is noticeable via a dyno test but noticing another 10bhp on the foot maybe another story.

    Its also been around for 5yrs, its not something "new" if indeed it was baloney I don't think market forces/consumers would still be using it. The market is soo strong here they have even released a newer version called V-Power Racing which is 100Ron with 5% ethonol.

    I personally been using Optimax/V-Power for the past 5yrs~ and I noticed 50-80km/tank average instantly from previous 95 octane. I also noticed a better response from lower down the RPM range.
