Hey Sherpa, my "spotter" swears he saw you today in an orange 911s. Sounds like it was an early 70s car. Did you get a another car? I sure hope i get to see it in person soon.

Man, you have spies all over the place.

It's a 1970 911s Sunroof coupe. Ever since I missed out on Hawkeyes car - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/other-cars-parts-collectibles-misc/399091-1969-porsche-911-s-mint.html - I have been looking for another early sunroof coupe.

I have not bought it yet because I still have to do the inspection on it. The other thing about it is that someone sent me a pm and said that every car I buy (F40, Daytona Coupe) is something on Bullfighter's "wanted cars" list and each time I add it to my collection, he takes it off of his wanted cars list. I have not looked in a bit (will do so now) but I think he had something like this on there. I don't know if I want to be responsible for decimating his wanted cars list. :)

Anyways, here are some older pics of the car. It's pretty damn awesome.

Dude, you should so buy it if you haven't already! What a great addition to the F40 and Daytona collection. Some one has these two as their top list cars that they'd like to own on their wish list but I don't remember. They should come check 'em out in real life.

Ha... 911S is still solidly on my list. Just waiting for the right color/options to pop up.

Unless it's rusty, hard to go wrong with these. Prices are high, but compared to the Dino 246 they're a bargain.

It's signal yellow, actually. Initially, I thought it was orange as well.

    We shall see...

Jon, what options are you talking about/looking for? I thought the only options are sunroof, sport seats, driving lights, skid plates. Are there a bunch more?

Glad to know that I'm not killing your car aspirations with my stuff. :D

But you should still get a Daytona Coupe. They're right up your alley.

Nice. I like the driving lights, which are fairly rare if OEM. From the photos, there seems to be too much orange for Signal Yellow, but it has been a while since I've seen the color in the flesh. Lovely revving engines with MFI: the one thing I miss about owning early 911s.

The options list was actually pretty long for a European car back in the day. Some of the major ones are limited slip diff, electric windows, Golde sunroof, fog lights, a/c, leather interior (or various houndstooth upholstery), sport seats, many different Becker or Blaupunkt radios, and a larger fuel tank. Some items that were optional on the T were standard on the S (e.g. five speed gearbox and Fuchs alloys).

With old cars you have to take what you can find, but sport seats, sunroof and a/c would fall into my "very nice to have" category. Visually I also like the front spoiler from circa 1971 onward.

Signal yellow is actually a nicer color, IMHO, than signal orange. I was offered a signal yellow 911E Targa earlier this year (immaculate restored show car at $135K), but I'm partial to the coupes.

On the Daytona, I talked with FChat'er MalcolmB at the La Jolla concours -- he brought his yellow coupe, which (despite the Borranis he had on it - I like the Cromodoras) was one of my favorite cars on the lawn. But, my next fun car has to be something I can drive anywhere, so the 911 is more of a priority.

Given the obviously massive traffic the 'wanted cars' section of my profile seems to get, I have to try to limit it only to cars I'd actually buy if they became available.

Ha. You're the only person on here whose "wanted cars" section has so much traffic, it has tire marks.

By the way, I have been doing some research and I think I might be better off building my own early 911 coupe using the bits and pieces from the various early cars. I think that I might want a slightly breathed upon motor from a "t' and some other various subtle, period correct upgrades. All proper and correct parts. I can almost guarantee it will be signal yellow, though.

I had to wait for them to sell it to me. It should be here in a week or so. You can check it out in person.

And then I'm going to hit every big show on the calendar with it.

the 2.7 RS is definitely on my top 10 list, for early air-cooled 911s that's a beauty!
