Thanks for the info. What would be great now is to find someone who has an OTO without the option and see a pic and / or hear that exhaust. My money is on all of them (non HGT2 cars) being ordered with the upgrade, so we will probably never know....
Could it be that: "Chromed exhaust tips" - classic "trumpet" shape is based directly on the 599GTB..(see on the picture) So it appears that its the same standard exhaust mufflers but with tips similar to 599GTB? On the other hand, HGTS/HGTC/HGT1/HGT2 has the sport mufflers - "Ferrari Sport Exhaust", with the upgraded performance and sound. These exhausts have the double wall chromed tips (a la 250GTO) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well done! i think u settled it, Ricardo. The photo is the HGT2 exhaust (of course - why would ferrari make it easy to understand) but the copy describes exactly the appearance of my exhaust tips. Yeesh, $650 for blacked out exhaust tips!! They do look aggresive though...

While at the dealer a couple weeks ago the impression I had from comparing the exhaust sound from a 612 gen 1 car with sports exhaust to my 612 OTO with the HGT2 package was sports exhaust was a appearance enhancement mainly. But we didn't have a base 612 car with standard exhaust be certain.
Those exhaust tips were introduced on the 575M HGTC, carried over to the 612 HGTS/HGTC, then the HGT1/HGT2, and finally to the 599 HGTE in late 2009, but with black paint on part of the tailpipes. Here are my 575M HGTC tailpipes and someone else's 612 HGTS tailpipes, followed by the 599 HGTE tailpipes showing the black paint. Incidentally, even though they say chrome tailpipes, they are actually polished stainless steel. The double walled tailpipe really cuts down on discoloration on the tailpipes. Thanks for the great info, Taz. Interesting that the 612 doesn't seem to have the bright screens in that photo. Did that begin with the HGTC or HGT2?
Chrome grilles actually began with the HGT1 package on the Sessanta and continued with the HGT2 package on pre-OTO and OTO F133H 612s. Here is an image of a Sessanta with the HGT1 package, the HGTx tailpipes (and mufflers) and the chrome grilles. Image Unavailable, Please Login
On my 612 OTO the screens get dark and I just had my car detailed this week and ask them to brighten up the screens. I suspect the screens in the picture just need to be cleaned real well. Mine screens looked new after the detailer worked on them. It made all the difference.
Congrats on your addition, looks lovely! I didn't want a black one, but once I saw it in the flesh it only took 30 seconds.... 😊 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks!! Yes not sure why black isnt more popular for this car. Suits it perfectly to my eyes. TDF blue also really special on the 612.
Agree, those screens are a pain to keep shiny. I drive my car a lot and in all kinds of weather, and they get dirty. But it's not just dirt, it's stains that do not come off easily.I think most of it comes from behind the screen and it's hard to get back there to clean it. I use a brush with a long handle. Last winter I had them professionally repainted and they look great and have been resisting the staining I used to have, but they still get dirty.
Thanks, it's great, and very different than the 12cyl GT. All I need now is one like ur 997 GT3 an I'd have it all!!
