Is there an exact factory position for our fender shields that can be measured? Obviously, each model is different, but is there a source for
finding the correct position? 348 / 355 and 360.....thanks in advance.

All factory installed shields are placed within the stampings on the fenders. So, their placement is not random.

They could be measured if the points of measurement were well defined.

I have a 308 that I plan on putting metal shields on one day, but for now I bought a set of Magnetic ones and find myself putting them in slightly different spot everytime I wash or wax. I figure when I find the perfect spot I'll know. The newer cars had them available from factory so you need to decide whether you want them where the factory says or like them better somewhere else. Hell it's your car make yourself happy.

i don't want to start any trouble, but what do ferrari owners think when they see shields on a car that they don't "belong" on? i like the way they look, but i don't want to be "that" guy. i really ask this out of ignorance as a new owner.

Nice splash of color when done right. I find it a tough job to find the right position as well. Niki and I set them on the car with 2 sided tape and look at them for a day or two in various positions before the final stick. Once we are happy she makes a template so we do not have to go through it again. Funny how a half inch makes such a big change in the apperance.

    Hmmmm.

I may be wrong, but I remember once upon a time it seems that the shields were only placed on one side of the car, the driver side! This was in the 80s..and early 90s.

I do know that the euro 328s and maybe other models befor it had only one Pininfarina badge on the left hand side. Many owners bought another for the other side.

The magnets seemed to have stained my paint, although my paint was only on a couple weeks before I started putting them on.

    Chaa,

You are correct in that the 328s and the 308s only have the Pininfarina badge on the left side.

However, we are speaking of the Yellow Scuderia "shield" which is usually placed on the left front fender just in front of the door. Also, these shields did not come mounted on the cars prior to the late nineties cars. They were usually decals either added by the dealer or the owner.

Wetpet, you're not 'starting' anything by raising the issue. Note Onboost's remark that shields only started appearing in the late nineties, and then as dealer add-ons.

Pininfarina did not design shields into his vehicles because the art of Ferrari is to make a powerful statement with the least fuss. And Enzo did not see fit to have them added either.

Although not unattractive -how could a Scuderia shield be other than beautiful?- it does seem... slightly fetishistic.

Or, is there an anxiety among owners to emphasize the point, in case the car is mistaken for... for... well, for a Lamborghini, for instance?

They're no more "fetishstic" on a street car than fake breasts on a trophy wife.

Enzo certainly saw fit indeed: He placed them on every car his teams raced (Ferrari manufactured or otherwise (See pre-war Alfas)), along with team support vehicles.

"Scuderia Ferrari", the "SF" in the shield, means "Ferrari Race Team".

Concerning a car that the Ferrari factory team hasn't campaigned, the only proper postion for a Scuderia shield, post-Enzo Ferrari marketing be damned, is "on the owner's garage/office wall or, maybe, on their keychain".

...Bring on the slings and arrows.
