    Team -

I'm really conflicted on this for my Cali. I love the shields on my F430, but I'm not as sure on the California. I have them currently spec'd, but I have a few days (maybe) to still delete them. I know the whole story of "only the race cars should have shields" and I'm also going to use it as a daily driver, so deleting them makes the car a little more non-descript, but I'm still torn as I think they liven up the sides. Car will be grigio silverstone over nero.

    Any thoughts, suggestions, help?

    Thanks!
    Jim

I tend to feel that adding shields right next to the existing small fender vents makes things really busy at that point on the car. Just my opinion, though.

You should of course do whatever feels right and looks good to you, but since you are soliciting opinions:

IMHO putting shields on anything other than a race car or a derivative of a car that is raced is a bit weird. Using this styling queue, it follows that I would not place them on a 2+2 with no racing credentials at all.

I vote for shields. It makes the car look more "complete" IMO.

Maybe get yellow brake calipers to go with the shields.

Was the 612 raced? Or 599? Or Enzo?
Come to think of it, was an Enzo ever run at Le Man or any FIA sanctioned race?
I don't think it is weird that these cars are allowed to have shields.

No shields, be different! It is a rare Ferrari today that has no shields.

Shields and I'll tell you why. I noticed that people are fascinated by them when sitting along side you in traffic. Let them have their fun.

I am leaning toward doing without them on a daily driver. The titanium model looks really good without them IMHO.

+1 for shields. Ordered it on mine, also in Grigio Silverstone. Just as someone had suggested, going with yellow calipers too, to give it a bit of accent.

That was my original plan - my wife vetoed the yellow calipers. I was ok with that. She'd also like me to ix-nay the shields, but so far I've resisted.

I'm not biting. ;^) I know it's been debated umpteen times on this forum, so let's just leave it at "it really comes down to what your personal preferences are". I suppose it's akin to trying to convince someone to buy a blue car when they really want a black one.

I'm keeping the shields. I was at the dealer yesterday and they have their first demo California. I spent about 30min looking it over and 30min driving it, and my wife drove it for about 15min! For this thread though, I decided to keep the shields. I will write up my driving impressions later today. I was very impressed.

    Thanks, everyone!

Easy. I have now seen the California with and without shields and here in the UK there is just too much going on on the flanks, the sharks gill, the indicator (dont know if the US cars have the indicator as well) and then the shields all above one another, so for me an easy NO and I have ordered my car without. Regardless, I do not consider shields belong on pure production road cars.

Shields started on the race cars only and then the limited edition cars. It was quite sad that this 'race' feature was then picked up and people covered their 308's with shields, a sort of go faster option and it grew from there. Personally, history tells me they do not belong on road cars, Ferraris already stand out and do not need the extra bling-they have enough to shout about and easily gather attention unless you need the support. They were standard fit on my F40 which made, sense, but they are all an option on all pure road cars.

Save yourself the $1,250 or however much they are in the US and dare to be a little different.

If you enjoy the way shields look you should get them. If don't, you shouldn't.

I honestly don't understand your comment. How do you relate shields with "posing"?

    Good decision IMVHO!

I love to "pose" with my Ferraris actually. Even better when they're adorned with Shields. :)

If you like the look of the shields then put them on; they look handsome, are factory options, and spruce up the car. The notion of only race cars should have them is entirely silly.

The whole poseur thing is overblown and should be ignored. You like the Ferrari, the shields, and you enjoy the experience. If someone else cannot accept that then they need to get a life.
