I noticed today that I had a leak coming from a leak in the the rubber boot or bellows that is on the shift linkage going into the engine oil pan box. I will be removing the Gearbox Pan soon to adjust the linkage and I was wondering if someone has had experience in replacing the bellows so that I can do the whole job together.

It is the rubber boot that is on the shaft right as it enters the Engine Oil pan (shaft goes on through to the back into the gearbox). I hope it is possible to replace the boot from the end of the shift linkage that has the adjusting screw. - there is a little oil dripping from the crack in the rubber boot and I am suspecting it is engine oil, but not sure. I know there are some really great posts and pics on this but did not see anything about replacing the bellows. -thanks.

The bellows is just protection to keep dust/dirt off of the portion of the shift shaft that comes out of the engine sump past the shift shaft seal -- if you've got a leak, it's the seal that is leaking (so just replace the boot when you have the shift shaft out to put in the new seals ;))

Thanks steve. -will take a look at the leaky bellows again to see if there is any way i can change the seal from the outside of the Engine oil pan (i doubt it!)

Do a search, there are a number of posts about how to replace the shift shaft seal.

I had that leak and the ferrari dealer told me to drive the car about 100 miles to get the glue to reseal since I had not driven the car in a couple of weeks

I drove it about 150 miles and it is leak free now. It comes back only when it sits for awhile.

matt- i am wondering about the glue you speak of - is this part of the seal? My bellows actually has a tear in it - looks like it was torn(finally) from the shaft moving in and out during shifting.

To repeat, the 'bellows' does not stop or cause a leak.

Replace the seal and the 'bellows'.

After you do, give it some time and it will leak again.

Or, if the leak isn't significant, wait until you have to replace the clutch. Then replace the seal!
