Well, today's project involves taking apart my shifter housing and giving it a good cleaning. It looks like someone sprayed WD40 or something of the sort in there as there was a nice puddle of oil/liquid floating in the bottom of the housing. I'm also going to replace the Silent Bloc bushing with a Delrin bushing from Verell.

    My question is:
What grease should I use in here for the moving parts? (See pics) MolyLube? Lithium grease? Any advice would be welcomed.

    TIA,

    JIM

Jim, teflon spray or other 'dri'-lube work well, they won't grow like a Chia pet either!

Will the teflon spray have 'staying power' over time like a stationary grease would? I have some Teflon grease as well.

    TIA,

Hi Jim, I did my 355 shifter a month ago and after a thorough cleaning I reassembled it and used Red line synthetic grease. I have done this a few times with other Ferrari shifters in the past and it seems to hold up well.
Another thing I do is to put a piece of foam down in my shifter box, your pic #7, cut to fit and slit in the center for the shifter to move through. It will help keep the dust out shifter mechanism. Every so often I get vacuum down there to clean out the dust.

    I LIKE THAT IDEA.

Will do that to mine (flat black foam) this weekend as I only have 30 miles on my nice clean "new" shifter.

That's what I have used, has worked fairly well for the last 20 years. I have gone back in to my shifters over the years to relube them and they are always cleaner than the were 1st time.

I ended up using Swepco 101 MolyLube. It shifts nice, however, I think it may be a little heavy for the application. If I feel ambitious this weekend I may tear it back down and try some Dupont Teflon grease that I have in the garage. I think it would make the shift action a little lighter.

Your comment begs the obvious question: What would you suggest? (My shifter is apart right now)

    Oh and a side note.

I found that the bottom metal shifter "cup" if you will, seems to have an orientation. Mine would do together with the cup oriented both ways but it would bind the shift lever when torqued down so watch that. YMMV.

Maybe you missed my question the first time. OK, so you don't like Lithium. What lubricant do you use?
