I received a message on my youTube account from a fellow 348 owner who's got a problem with his car. He's having trouble registering on Fchat, so I'm just posting this on his behalf until he sorts it out.

I'm sure the brotherhood can help him out. :D

    Hi,

I have a 1993 ferrari 348 TS. I was crusing around, and something happened I wanted to shift from the 4th gear to the 3rd, but it wont shift, I tried the second and it wont go into second, it wont go to any gear so I pulled over. It will only shift in revese gear, but it wont move backward, it will move forward, it felt like it is stuck in the 4th gear.

by the time I got to the garage the clutch was burned, and the mechanic says the clutch and the flywheel need to be changed.

My question is, by any chance will putting in brand new clutch and a flywheel fix the shifting the problem, if this will not be fixed by the new clutch, what you think the problem might be?.

If you can help me out, I hope you can reply soon, I would really be greatfull.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    SFerrari

He needs to check the entire shift linkage run for loose bolts or couplers. :(

It's a cable linkage. A cable may have broken or come loose. What kind of clutch was he running that would have ruined the flywheel? $4000 USD to replace. Replacing the clutch will not fix the problem.

Sounds like cable or linkage problem to me also. Hard to tell over the internet though. :)
Would be nice to know where he lives, so someone can point him to the right mechanic. Replacing the flywheel IS a big call and may not be needed in this case. Poor fella may be getting ripped off........

I remember once reading that when the cable linkage goes, the lever feels as if you're shifting through a bucket of sand. A description to pass along, perhaps.

I'm with the rest of the boys, have a look at the connections for the shift cables, AND the bolt that attaches the selector fork to the slider. He can see these things himself from under the car.

Ditto for me after a major service - linkage not fitted right way around.
