Today, we were supposed to get our 1977 308 GT4. The wife called the shippers to determine about what time they would be here so we could plan our day accordingly. They told her that I had called them and told them to wait until today to pick up the car.

    What thuhhh?

That was a blatant lie. They emailed me and scheduled it to be delivered today. They told me that they had picked the car up on Tuesday but I called the dealer to only find that the truckers stood the previous owner up and never picked the car up. I'm Deaf. Yeah right, I called them.

    *sigh*

They didn't pick it up until this afternoon. We're not happy but the car will be here either Sunday or Monday. They just gotta stop in Pennsylvania to pick up two other cars before heading to Houston. Whatever.

Any advice from you all? I just need to know what to expect when they come because I'm about to rip them a new one.

Hopefully you did not use a company whose initials start with a D and end with an S.

I have no idea but they're based out of Seattle according to their area code.

McNutt Auto Transport is who we're using.

Either way, it doesn't really matter much. What I'd like to know is... how would you handle this when the car arrives? Keep in mind, I'm a pretty laid back guy but LYING?

Take the car and don't bother to say anything because it won't do any good.

Next time use one of the transporters that has earned a good reputation and skip the bargain priced no-names.

    I rarely post reply's BUT,

Obviously you will NOT need this transfer service again,
BUT, that is unless your business, or whatever you do
requires this same service again. I can read the Rosetta
Stone on this one, not again.

Bro, pay the bill, clean her up, take pix, and post them to
us. We cannot warm your wallet, but we fellow F'ers
can warm you up with responses and accolades.

    Cheers bro,
    Dwight

We didn't choose the shipper. The broker handled that. I'm fairly surprised that they're a 'no-name' on here. It's who Cannillo Motorsports uses. We'd think them to be reputable but that's on us for not doing the research.

    *sigh*

I'm just appalled by the blatant lying that went on between them and the wife. They were very apologetic to me but insist to the wife that I called them.

    LMAO.

You're right but I'm probably at least going to place a few phone calls. I do NOT want a refund or anything like that as I've seen a couple of threads here. That's not what I'm looking for. I just think a little hell-raisin' is neccessary here.

If they can keep you waiting a day or two and pick up a couple more cars along the way it's good for their bottom line.

If you were shipping the car to a show or an auction it would hopefully be different.

I've seen this happen before but they should have been honest about it and not try to blame you for the delay.

The fact of the matter is that when it comes to auto transport, the average auto transport company is run about as well as a cluster fluck. Rarely are cars picked up on time and even rarer are cars delivered on time. However, most the time the car makes it to the destination at some point and without major damage. After shipping many cars I've learned to just be very patient and not blow a gasket at every/any delay, and not expect that I'm dealing with most professional of organizations....

    Nitro:

    Bottom line---

When I picked up my 75 GT4 some time ago, I went with the best, but..
not the uber expensive. Wife was not involved, she hated the experience
anyway. She has since warmed, as we guys have all expenienced.

Picking through the weeds, get the damn car in, clean her up, do a full
blown check, get a pro to check her out, drain every fluid she has in her,
I mean everything, then drive her before the rains and
other mother nature issues happen, take pix, post, and get ready for
your spring running with fellow F'ers in your community/state.

Please make sure you register your GT4 with the GT4 register in
    Canada.

    Cheers,
    Dwight

There really isn't anything you can do. Mostly McNutt is a broker and the person delivering your car owns their own carrier business and doesn't work directly for Mcnutt. So you need to talk to Mcnutt directly. The carrier that delivers the car will probably not know anything about Mcnutt other than they hired them and set a rate for them that you pay when it arrives.

    Hi fellas,
I am bringing a car from Providence R.I., to Houston in a week or so. I received a decent quote from AA Automovers in N.J. Has anyone had experience with these guys before?
Any recommendations for this particular trajectory?
    Thanks a bunch.

+1. Car delivery, lawn services, etc. are heavily populated by the lower strata. Responsibility and commitment mean nothing to them. Some are good, most......oh well.

I was about to offer the same thing, but then, many of them take it very seriously and there are GREAT ones at the top strata, but the "bottom of the bottom" is scary indeed...

The size of the actual rig has great impact, a three car ramp unit obviously can give better service than a full sized one carrying many more...

Moving, once, they put my lil' batch of 1 Bdr. apartment furniture in the nose of a truck with three houses loaded!

I slept on the floor three weeks, in Dallas, waiting for it...

    Same thing here......hang in there!!!

This is the car we purchased. This car will remain at the Houston house.

    http://www.cannillomotorsports.com/inventory/rgt4/rgt4.htm

Only 3? Really?! That seems a little hard to believe. I parked cars for a long time in the Houston area. I know I've valet parked more than 3 308s. I once parked several 308s at the same time at what used to be called the Outback Pub on Fountain View. Some kind of Ferrari event there. There was one red and one black matching cars about 7 or 8 years ago. Granted, I don't know which 308s they were. Is the GT4 more rare than the GTB? If so, why?

    Only 3???

Well, you are familiar with the different styling houses of Italy...???

The GT4 was a design by Bertone, who also did the FIAT X1/9.....

Then it was Pininfarina that took over the design for the 308GTB/GTS..

The GT4 production years were far shorter than the 308GTB/S is one reason for rarity, and I know of at least one that was sold from Houston, to somewhere else..

The first Ferrari I considered buying was a black/black GT4 on a Westheimer lot, no longer there....

    $19K......

They fell for awhile where a rusty one at JRVs Pinnacle Motorsports was down to $14K or so....

They handle a little better on the track than the longer wheelbase GTB so the values are back onto an upward curve....IMO
