    Hello Everyone,

Myself and my three sons are exploring the possibility of shipping 4 cars to Germany and driving them around Europe next summer and was wondering if anyone has done this? I've searched to get info and I can't find anything definitive. My questions are:

    1. Besides the obvious cost to ship the cars, are there any import or custom or registration costs involved?
    a. Can we just keep our WA license plates on the cars for all the countries
    2. Do we need special driver's licenses for the cars?
    3. Do we need to have the cars inspected or "authorized" to drive there (they are all US models)

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Mark,
You might get a better response if you post in the Silver section, that would cost you a few bucks.
Another option would be the General Ferrari discussion forum, not certain if that costs or not.
If you can click on it and read/post there it is free.
Not certain if a lot of people in the NW section have done what you are planning, but nationwide/worldwide there
are members who ship their cars across oceans ;)
    Sounds like an awesome adventure.
In those other sections, they will have first hand knowledge of your other questions.

I don't know if you have to pay some sort of import tax, but I don't think you do... although they might make you post a bond to make sure you bring the cars back out. Find a shipping company who specializes in this, and they should be able to take care of you.

As for driving on your Washington plates, I know that is fine. And I believe your Washington license is fine with your Washington plates, but you might double-check.

This is a thread about someone who did this earlier this year with his 250TdF:

If you go forward, please post your experiences here. It's something I've thought about doing, but will have to wait for a few years, until my daughter is off at college.

You can probably use a Carnet. It's a document folio that allows you to temporarily import something of value without paying import taxes (because you essentially promise to export the goods within a certain time period). There are probably advantages to having a separate Carnet for each car, but technically I believe they could all be done on one.
