Happy New Year all. Does anyone have experience shipping their personal f car to australia from LA? Are there many fees for a personal use car once it lands and are there restrictions for the car once it arrives down under. Thank you for your help. crash
Hi, The main one will be having to convert it to RHD!! Post this in the Aussie section for the full details. Regards, Phil.
Good morning Crash. I wouldnt bother shipping your Mondial here to Australia. You are better off selling the car there and buying another Mondial here. Upon import, you have to pay Stamp Duty Tax, Gross Sales Tax and Import Tax, plus the cost of shipping the Mondial here. Then.....you have to convert the car from LHD to RHD. Not worth it IMHO. You can buy a very nice Aussie delivered Mondials for AU$80K. Around US$70K There are currently 13 Mondials for sale in Australia. Here is a link to them. http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-cars/search.aspx?N=279%204294966867%204294966060
Tell me about it mate!! Thats why we are paying AU$120K for a 348 and AU$500K for a new F430. Ect....ect....
Lol!! Well, I did "Pap Invasion Tour USA" in 2007. Perhaps a "Pap Invasion Tour Egypt" in 2008 is in order. I would love to come that way, but the g/f doesnt want to visit ANYWHERE in that area.
Hi Crash, If you've owned and used the car for at least 12 months, it becomes feasible as no Australian Design Rules are applicable. However it depends on the state to which you are moving - it's all a bit parochial, with many local rules variations. If the car is already RHD, it might be worth it, sentimentality aside. If the car is LHD, definately not worth it - conversion would cost at least A$20K - if you can find someone who wont butcher the car.
Are you moving here or just visiting/ coming for an event? There are different concessions for each scenario but you definately need to check with the State you're trying to register in.
Thanks all for the 411. I will be arriving in Sydney shortly. I have owned the car 5 years but they must be crazy to think I would change to RHD. How long can the car be in the country before it must be changed to RHD? Oh well looks like she stays in LA until my return. thank you all crash
As Karen asks for how long are you over as some states allow up to one year so if you were to bring it straight away you nearly get two complete summer's of use
+1. I have seen cars with "Caution Left Hand Drive" stickers on the rear of them. They can be driven here LHD, as long as it is not a permanent stay. I will call the Sydney Transport Department tomorrow morning for you Crash and I will try and get the 411 for ya before you come out. Leave it to me.
PAP........did you check nautigirl's website http://www.nautigirl.us/ ...........lots of bikinis there ....wow. And I thought nautigirl was derived from naughty girl...........just kidding .
Nah man, I have seen cars with California plates, Nevada plates with LHD stickers on the rears of them. California plate was on a big brown GMC 3500 truck driving through town. The Nevada plates were on a black mid 90's Caddilac sedan driving through town also. I can imagine it is hard, but looks like it can be done. But obviously some rules apply. I will call tomorrow and try to find out more.
I am to be corrected. lol Hey, I see you changed your profile picture. I would suggest the missus wasn't happy seeing the old one ???
