I'm planning on shipping a Ferrari to Hawaii - The transportation of a $300k car scares the Cra* out of me to me honest... Has anyone any experience of how best to insure against damage/loss? The shipping companies only cover the first 10K and then you can pay 2% of the estimated value which would equate to a whopping $6k... Are there alternative forms of marine insurance you can buy for these type of situations? Thanks for any help
Pasha all the way. To or from HI. Contact your insurance agent for what additional coverage, if needed, you might need. Chris.
I shipped a new BMW earlier this year from California to the Big Island. Admittedly not a Fcar, but in my case my regular insurance (USAA) covered the vehicle while in transit. Pasha was very good - easy to deal with.
Guys thats really helpful... I agree on pasha. Did you have any damage on your cars? I'm concerned about the CCB's and how they lash the car down on the deck to stop it moving Thanks again
A small scuff on the rear bumper near the bottom... hardly visible and most people would never notice. Wheels were perfect. Car was shipped with plastic shipping covering still on - I asked dealer not to remove it in Calif.
Pacific Air Cargo. I shipped my California from Hawaii to LAX. They give you a ship date, and you drop it off the day before. They put it on a car pallet and fly it over here or there. Then, you go to the airport and pick it up at their terminal 7 hours later. In 2010, it was around $4k. I wouldn't trust the slow boat option. It is too tempting for the guys driving it. Revving the engine while cold is common practice. The cars sit too long and it will be driven at least in their lot.
