Has anyone had any issues with their shock ECU?

I have seen a few cars now with issues, solely related to the ECU failing, not the shock actuators and not misdiagnosis because the car was turned over a few times without driving.

My own car I discovered had an issue in the past and the Ferrari dealer changed the shock switch to the later style version and the ECU - which they used the incorrect part from a 456. I sourced a Fiorano spec ECU and the correct suspension switch and all is well for now.

Since then I have had 4 other F355 with issues and a constant suspension warning light.

One car when plugged into the diagnostic port with SD2 couldn’t communicate with the shock ECU. A change of ECU and error was eliminated and communication reestablished.

I have another 1994 F355 in now with no light on the dash but a quick check of the ECU and it’s the same 456 ECU my car was fitted with (154835).

I swapped my known working shock ECU into a friends car with the dash light on and working actuators and his car immediately had no more suspension warning light.

With so many examples of ECU issues - what are our options if/when the unit fails? The inner board is coated in a film like the a/c so it’s hard to determine if there is any noticeable issues on the circuit board.

Only option I see now is rolling the dice on used items.

    Is anyone rebuilding these ECU’s?

I have had success with airbag ECU rebuilds and the A/C control unit but this one seems not covered much if at all, with most issues stemming from the actuators themselves.

Is it only the wrong type ECU that is failing?

Or were the very early 355s fitted with the 456 type and they are just getting old?

No even 98 F1 with very low mileage and the correct ECU had an issue. The two 95s with the 456 model ecu also had the later style suspension switches so can only assume changes were made to try and correct issues in the past. My car and the other 95 with 456 ECU had no light on dash or issues.

Strange. I wonder if it has something to do with its location, sitting on the floor.

Is the suspension CU the only FHP item on your '95? How does it drive compared with the stock SCU? Is it OK to use the FHP SCU on a car with otherwise stock suspension?

No I have the FHP springs, rear sway bar
and lower forks as per the FHP car.
The ECU makes a noticeable change to the ride. Now I drive regularly in comfort mode and only when pushing on do I use sport as it’s noticeably firmer.

The FHP ecu can work on any F355 but it’s tuned specifically for the Fiorano setup.
