Shock absorber failure on 599

Greetings, all -- had a fluid deposit a few weeks ago on the 599 near the right rear wheel that was diagnosed as a transmission hydraulic leak -- with subsequent repair.

The drip returned last week -- and this time the diagnosis is a failed right rear shock, with fluid leakage. I wondered why the ride seemed rough! Shock has been replaced and I will pick up tomorrow and report.

I searched the forum, but didn't find any other mention of this issue -- has anyone else encountered it? Also, would the failure mode be a harsh ride? Guessing so, but I'm no genius mechanic...
