I just picked up a actuator to replace one that was frozen. Before I put this one on, is there a way to check to see if the gear on top of the shock still turns? Don't know why my actuator failed and don't want to burn another one. The gears on the previous actuator were intact but the motor was frozen.

You can turn it with your fingers

I'll give that a try. Are their any marks to aline anything with so that they are all set the same? I'm assuming that due to the failure of one actuator, they are all set on the middle setting until I clear the code. If I start turning anything, will it change the settings?

Does this type of unit "self test" (like on some Corvettes) and know where it is at so you don't have to worry about setting an alignment?

It's actually an on/off switch - there are only 2 settings. Turn it one way then back and there you go. There is no in between. I installed a pair on my 348 to see the difference and I had to reach in there and turn them by hand to get sport or touring. I took them off since the stock 348 SS shocks are better IMO.

Does anyone know if you installed them already turned would the motor or gear strip when it tries to turn it further and can not.

They are self-indexing. Doesn't matter in what position you install them, they will 'find' the limits of travel on the shock and calibrate themselves.

Thanks for the help. I should have things back up and running tomorrow if the replacement actuator works.
