While I am putting most of my plane shopping in the warbird section, I thought I would just drop a post here as it might be interesting to others looking at planes. This weekend I went to California to see a polished VFR AT-6. Much like any ac, you check the logs, books ADs and talk to everyone about these aircraft. I've had an AT-6 before, so I have a small head start on these, but reviewing all of the material (including and especially the pilot manual) is critiacal on any plane you go see. Of the 4 planes in que that I am seeing so far, the AT-6, a BT-13, BT-9 and T-28A, I have bought or downloaded and studied the pilot manuals for all three and looked at ADs, etc on-line to prepare for the visit and/or flight.

The California T-6 from this weekend was externally PRISTINE (and a bit dear) AT-6D with an average, if original, military interior. It is a good VFR plane in January annual with the Spar AD, and 350 hr FWF by Aero Engines (not as good as Covington, I know). As with many T-6s in this medium price range, the radios were a bit tired being dual KX-170Bs, but they are fairly rugged as you all know. I am not a big fan of putting the radios where they are in this plane, but oh well.

I am thinking about a bid even though more expensive than my old SNJ - but this has a low time engine while the SNJ engine time is getting high (a rebuild is about $30K - another important to know fact!!). Also want these things added as condition of sale:

    Airwolf Oil Filter System
    Jasco Alternator conversion
    Attach angle skids
    Electric boost pump

I will probably simplify the radio kit myself if the deal goes through. Any other suggestions?

Will be going to look at a couple of other planes over the next few weeks.

Looks like a great stock D Russ. Wish I had the dough-ray-me for one of those. 51 is a great airplane, but a T-6 is a whole lot of fun at a fraction of the cost. Hood back, wind blowing through your hair (ok DJ to make a wise crack), bugs in your teeth.
