I have a skitzy cat temp sensor on the 1-6 bank of my 89 TR I have unhooked the sensor ECU (up on pass rear shock tower) but occasionally when I hit bumps it starts buzzing and the light comes on...which is irritating, does anyone know what circuit or relay controls this in the front fuse box so I can disconnect it?

I run test pipes so I dont need to worry about the cats overheating anyway.

    Questions:

    1. Did you unplug both the 2-pin thermocouple connector and the 4-pin power/ground/light connector?

    2. Did you tape/insulate the 4-pin connector on the harness side so that none of its pins could accidentally touch to ground?

Unfortunately, the fuse that runs the over-temp warning lights also runs other instruments so you can't remove that fuse to disable just the over-temp warning lights. You can unplug the buzzer -- item 14 in this SPC illustration:

    http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=1&Mo=624&A=2&B=35199&S=

but you'll lose the buzzer warning function for low oil pressure too (although I'd guess a lot of TRs have had this buzzer disconnected anyway -- mine did/does).

If you've unplugged and insulated the 4-pin wiring harness connector, it would be a very unusual failure IMO to cause the warning light to come on, but please give your situation.

I have unplugged and insulated the thermocouple and I am taking it the four pin you are discussing is the one plugged into the module above the shock tower on the passenger side of the car yes? If so I did not insulate that disconnection so I will go in there and tape it off and see if that helps.

If I were going to disconnect the buzzer I take it that it is behind the fuse panel?

Yes, inboard of the RH rear suspension (but there are two modules -- one for each bank -- so you are unplugging the thermocouple and the 4-pin connectors for both modules right?)

    Yes.
