I'm looking at buying another car in Washington State. I would have to move the vehicle a couple hundred miles. The vehicle is registered in Washington but will find it's new home in Canada. Is there some kind of temporary (2-3 days) insurance one can purchase in Washington state that will insure the vehicle until I can register and insure the vehicle properly in Canada?

    Thanks in advance

Ask your present insurance company to carry you those couple of days. John

Most companies here give you about 30 days from purchasing a vehicle to getting it to them for inspection with coverage. Check with your local company.

Most insurance companies in the states will allow you to put coverage on the car with a phone call, paperwork to follow.

I don't know what a canadian insurance company's policies would be on cars bought in the US.

If your insurance carrier isn't an option, you might want to consider an enclosed vehicle transport option -- carry it as cargo rather than drive it. It might be as cheap as a short term insurance policy.

I had that issue when I bought my Lotus. My insurance company (Millers Mutual) took 3 days to come up with a rate: $500 a year. I said fine. The day I was to drive it home they called me and said they decided not to cover it! Then they lied to me about the 30 day thing as well. I got Hagerty to cover it over the phone so I was covered. Millers was stupid; I subsequently dropped them. They had my other two cars and home insurance so I think they lost out in that deal.

Check with your current insurance; they should cover you for 30 days.

Yes it's true your current insurance should cover the car you just bought for 30 days. At least mine did.
