    Quick Question:
My Canadian insurance company (Belair) will not insure the car I just bought as long as the plates are US. The US insurance on the car from the previous owner has since expired, so it is uninsured now! Can I get short term insurance to drive it to the border next week now that my paperwork is in order, then insure it with Belair once it is Canadian? Any tips would be helpful.

Assuming Quebec is similar to Ontario: If the car is in the U.S., with U.S. plates, you are the owner of the car and you have your paperwork in order to bring it into Canada, then you should be able to go to the Dept of Transportation, get a trip permit sticker(short period, something like 10 days), which will allow you to drive the car from the U.S. to Canada legally. Belair's territory is North America, excluding Mexico. You need to get confirmation that they will cover you during the period you have the trip permit sticker. Most insurance companies will do this.

    Good Luck!

I have never heard of a trip sticker! Nobody has mentioned it in my numerous calls to them. Is there a particular number I should call for this?

Your local DMV should do it......it costs $15 here in Alberta......and you need a new insurance company.

It does not allow you to drive around. You have to go from A-B.
