VIN ZFFWA20B000060505 My broker found this 86 328 GTS. It is certainly rough around the edges right now but he is convinced it is a good car underneath. That is a tough sell for me! At any rate, I know the car originally went to Mexico in '86 and then was imported through Ferrari of Houston (or perhaps it went through Houston enroute to Mexico). Some how it ended up in the North East of the US. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
the VIN decoded gives this, ZFF: Ferrari W: 328 Euro A: 3 point belts 20: 328 GTS B: left drive Euro 0: check digit 0: Euro model 0: not used 060505: production sequence

FWIW, I'd rather buy a car that is under market $ due to neglect and have all the services done under my watchfull eye than to pay a premium for a car that has "supposedly" be kept up to date. That way you know it's doen, done right.
According to grwise's original post and Scott's decoding, the numbers are right -- '86 328. SN in the low 60xxx range makes sense, time wise, since the last 308s in 1985 were 59xxx range. What doesn't make sense is that other listing that Scott his on, calling it a 308. Obviously, that would need to be sorted if he is serious about the car, but otherwise, it seems to be correct as an 86 328.
All cars he's showing from 1976 on up have 60xxx serial number. Can't be a serial number, maybe his stock #?
Yeah, those chassis #'s are weird. The car I was talking about is without a doubt an '86 328 GTS. No one could have faked it that good. Problems with the car are more than mechanical. SERIOUS road rash on the rims, a couple dents in the exterior including one small puncture. Also, from the interior pics it looked like a good deal of corrosion around the screws that hold the removable top in place. I know it is a steal for a 328 ($32k at 38k miles), but the pictures my guy sent me just showed too much neglect for me to consider it. Thanks for the help.
I wouldn't call it a steal with those problems. I've got a '86 Euro with none of those issues and 43K miles that I'd sell in the low 40's
