Not sure I agree with that....

I bought a new (ordered) 2008 BMW xi Coupe. Since 2008, I've put on 110K miles.

The only problems I have had are:

-New High pressure fuel pump (recall)
    - 3-4 bulbs
    - Water pump
    - Misfire in cylinder 4 (last weekend) resolved with new plugs.

Plenty of quality in the car.

LOL! I am not surprised at all.

Hey and thanks for the parts/service. You are fast as always.

As somebody that drives a Mil-Spec vehicle daily (I have a 1978 Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer), I can assure you they do also wear out!! But the flip side is that Aaron and I can rip the whole engine apart with two screw drivers and a 11mm socket in about 40 minutes. Military engineering is beautifully simple. And pretty damn robust.

I think this is more-or-less the main issue. So long as there's a wait to get in to the nightclub, there isn't much financial incentive for the owner to be less snooty.

Ferrari's mystique has never been "you pay more for quality but we do everything we can to make things right." If anything, buyers seem braced for a certain measure of abuse. Perhaps if Ferrari decides to up the production volume this will change.

For some brands, a reputation for no-fuss after sales support is a big part of the sales pitch and their identity. Like Snap-On way back in the old days, or Festool, or Swarovski Optik, or Red Wings ... I can't think of any car companies in this category.

If you do a search you'll find that the quality of BMW's varies greatly from car to car/ model to model.

There are plenty of complaints about turbo failures (on petrol and diesel models), timing chains snapping, swirl flaps falling into the engines, differentials ripping the boot floor apart, electric roof failures, semi-automatic gearbox issues etc., etc.

BMW's build quality is nowhere near as good as it used to be!

Ferrari do stand behind their REPLACEMENT PARTS! - It's called a PARTS WARRANTY!

They warrant that REPLACEMENT PARTS will be free from manufacturing defects and failures for a set time period - Providing that they are fitted correctly and not subjected to an outside influence that causes the part to fail (Here's a tip for you: It's pretty much a standard practice in all industries!).

If the REPLACEMENT PARTS fail outside of the warranty period, they may, at their discretion, offer a goodwill gesture that can be anything from a small discount on the part to a completely free replacement.

They are not under any legal obligation to provide free replacements outside of the warranty period though, and they are under no legal obligation to replace any part free of charge if it can be shown that the failure was due to incorrect handling/fitting, or an outside influence on the part (Again, that's pretty much standard practice!).

You quote BMW supplying an SMG pump and how long it lasted, but their PARTS WARRANTY system will be exactly the same as Ferrari's. Had their pump failed just outside the warranty period then they would be under no legal obligation to replace the part free of charge.

If you think Ferrari deal with PARTS WARRANTIES any differently to any other car manufacturer then you are greatly mistaken!

(The funniest thing about this entire thread is that you are complaining that Ferrari should do a better job of standing behind their products and yet the product you're talking about is not made by Ferrari and is therefore not their product at all!).

Look I understand any part on a car can fail... I'm not going to sit around acting butt hurt like some on here if someone says for as much as Ferrari parts cost they should be better quality. I'm not an apologist. If you dont get it you dont get it... I know why I bought my 355, i assure you it wasnt for the great quality and reliability. I also think after all these years a 360 shouldnt go through 3 F1 pumps 100k if daily driven...
