Should Ferrari have cup-holders?
No. I remember reading somewhere that at one time, the Germans couldn't understand why they had to include cup holders in their cars to be more appealing to the American market because they always considered driving to be an "all-encompassing" activity. If you want to munch on a sandwich and sip on some bottled water while on the road, buy a Hyundai. If you want a driving experience, get a Ferrari.
Of course. Ferraris aren't race cars for god's sake!! You want to DRIVE them and if it's a long trip, a cup holder would make it easier. You have A/C, right? Now, you guys with Challenge cars are in a different catagory of course. Ken
i'm a HUGE advocate for cup holders... HUGE...! ...but in a Ferrari, there's absolutely no need for them...
Would love to see this vote split between owners and non-owners. If you view a Ferrari as a museum piece then it doesn't need a cup holder. If you want to actually use it on a regular basis then they would sure come in handy. I won't use them when I'm on the track but why shouldn't they be there for everyday use? While I'm ranting - how about a decent Nav system.
cupholders,,,,,, you're talking cupholders? Gentlemen, I suggest we take small steps here. How about timing chains instead of rubber bands. Then maybe we can talk about amenities.
I have a track car that does not have carpeting, much less a cup holder. But I actually drive my 355 instead of just washing it and there are times I wish I had a cupholder. While I am driving I really don't think about missing it, but there are a few of times I do: * Driving to work, sure would be nice to pick up some Starbucks to drink back at the office. Can't do it, no cup holder. * Picking up some fast food, sure would like the value meal. Can't do it, no cup holders. * Driving to New Orleans for the French Quarter Classic, locked in 6th gear. A cold beverage would make the drive a little nicer, can't do it. Anyone here drive 7K-10K miles/year and still not want a cup holder?
I do drive that much, and I want a cupholder. I saw a 308 at the SR that had a standard window cupholder mounted on the passenger side of the console, so that it held the drink in front of the passenger seat. Pretty slick and easily removable, I might have to do that.
Closed minds. I was roundly *mocked* on another forum, not F-Chat, for daring to ask if there was some other material, perhaps Mylar/Kevlar, something, anything, that our existing timing belts could be better made from than flimsy rubber. I even went to the trouble to find a web site where they *make* such belts, though not (yet) for F-cars. http://beltcorp.com Apparently such a suggestion is beyond the pale for a Ferrari owner, as if I haven't paid the price of admission and don't have an opinion worth considering...
I don't know about the 355, but my 348 has two *perfect* places for cupholders, on the extra seatbelt lock (either on the side of our seats or in our mouse-motor track). Welding the female end of a seat belt to stainless cupholder would do the trick, be perfectly placed, and be easily removable.
The lack of a cup holder is an affectation in my humble opinion. Even a F1 car has a drink dispenser.
I spent a total of 3hrs today in sweltering temperatures in my car. I had a bottle of coke on the spare seat for when I got thirsty. Didn't have to worry about it spilling on corners, or bumps. Cup holders are just not neccesary in my opinion...Though they can be a 'nice to have' on some cars.
I have installed a cup holder in every Ferrari I have owned. It is not a big deal. It would be very nice if Ferrari included one from the factory. Whether one used it or not, would be up to them. Here is what I did for my 355. I redyed the leather cover with Leatherique dye to match my interior. Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Why not? Ever driven a Ferrari for 640 miles straight? The 365 has a drink holder, a 20 oz bottle will fit very well between the seat and the door.
