I’ve always envied you 12c owners. I drooled over two cars that clients owned, an 89 GTS and the subject TR, for 4 years before buying the GTS about 6 months ago. The owner of the TR now wants to sell and we’re collectively supposed to value the car. I know a lot more about the 3x8 cars than the 12s, so I’m having trouble coming up with a good valuation. I spent over an hour petting this 89 rosso & nero today and she has 7700 org miles on her. The major was completed last month and the cars just purrs. The driver seat is lightly worn where expected and the shoulder belts’ cage paint is worn too. Other than that, the car is near perfect. I was most impressed by the entire luggage kit, which has never been used. I have never been able to handle them before and I was in awe of that beautiful tan leather. The set has the behind the seat cases and the entire trunk set, which included a Ferrari pattern hanging bag that I had not seen in person before…pretty neat. Needless to say, all of the records, tools, keys, etc. are there, as the original owner is offering it to me and he visited the factory during production. It was a 50th b-day gift from his wife…sorry, no sisters! Help me out 12c men, what would be a fair offer for this car? If it’s out of my league, I told him that I’d post it here for you all to grab. So far I’ve seen them listed form the mid 50’s to 90k.

Thanks, and enjoy this recent pic I took in my garage my favorite red heads…at least until a TR joins the cat house ;)

    Is it an '89 too?

With a reputable & verifiable full blown 30K service, I'd split the NADA average & high retail as a starting point. A low mile car, one owner, luggage, fresh service & you know the seller... that is worth a lot!

If it is a series 2 car, 1989, somewhere in the mid to high 70's???? Maybe more... especially if he waits until April or May to sell. Personally, once they get into the '80's I'd get REAL picky! Sounds like a very nice car.

How is your local market? If he has to sell thru a broker in a different state/ city... start subtracting!

They went up from 10 to 18% last year per NADA. If (???) that trend continues (????) it isn't worth argument. I suspect the trend will slow but continue. Go for it!

    Have fun,
    Vince

Thanks, Vince. It is an 89 and the belts were done, so I assume it was a full blown 30k service, but I'll dig further.

There's a lot of wealth in my area and luxury cars are still selling well. I won't have to deal with a broker, but will get a PPI if I move forward.

In general, how much interest is there in these cars? I also forgot of mention the trophy from Monterey that he has sitting above it. I'd love to have a car that is clean enough to show

What's the luggage worth on it's own?

The luggage is worth $2,500 on ebay. $6K plus from Ferrari I believe. I would put the value at 75K

For comparison, we have a 1990 car in inventory that has 14k miles, major service and belts done in the last 2 years, one-owner CA car, red/tan that we're asking $78,650 for. I've seen a couple with similar or lower mileage with a fresh(er) service listed in the $80k's, and have seen th higher mileage and / or non-serviced cars as low as the $50k's.

A simple answer to your question is YES, you should. They are awesome cars. Of course I am biased.

Regardless of the arguments about their increasing or decreasing value at this time, they still represent a great value for a 12 cylinder Ferrari. If you can swing it, buy it. It sounds like a great find.

I wouldn't worry too much about the current value, sounds like a good deal. If I was in your shoes and have the dough lying around, I'd jump at the opportunity and be quite satisfied of owning a neo F-Car V12. I'd drive it for a while and probably keep it till its worth a million bucks!

Oh, and "Kung Hei Fat Choi" to you my friend! Its supposed to be a very good (financially) year this year (according to the chinese calendar), have a prosperous chinese new year to all!

Go for it Bill... It it looks anything like mine, don't pass it up. The feel of the 12 is awsome and regardless where you take her, you will be a proud owner. After all, it is the Ferrari most recognize and say wowowowowowo...

I'm thinking 70k to 75k -- once you get up into the mid- to high-80s you're getting into 512TR territory, which is a lot more car for very little more money (I've owned both)...

sounds like a decent car. i'd go for the 70-75K range. 80s seems too high for a testarossa now. i've owned both the testarossa and a 328. both very nice, totally different to drive.

I'd offer $60-65k, because he's never gonna get this much on his own. And if he tried to trade it in on something, they'd probably hose him with an offer of $50-55k.

    Best of luck!

If you have the money, pay for the maintenance and you find the right car, go for it.
