It has been recommended to me that I buy an e55. Maybe somebody thinks I'm old. But i have an e46 m3 that I am a little tired of, I have been going on longer trips and vacations, and we could use something more comfortable.

Any experiences with the w211, which I guess is 03-06. They're supposed to be fast and ride pretty good. The sloppy handing can be fixed.

Hopefully Jerry finds this thread soon. He's got an E55.

I'll see if I can drag him out of the comic book and dating scene long enough.

    ROTFLMAO !

What would you like to know ?

Ive also had an M3 so I can compare.

The E55 is a fantastic car and at the preowned prices probably the best sport sedan buy on the planet. I think auction prices for my 2006 with 55k miles are around $30k..Lets say you pay $35k. Thats an amazing bargain considering I paid ~$90k a few years ago :(

Pros: Solid car with no rattles or squeaks. No problems with trim or other bits coming loose. Leather is high quality and still smells new. Seats, for me, are very comfy. Never had a single mechanical issue (though electrical gremlins described below). Tons of torque...feels *almost* as torque-y as my viper. Incredibly fast for a big old 4-door.

Cons: Handling as noted. Not tossable or the most fun/exciting driving experience...nowhere near as fun as the M3. Electrical gremlins...Ive had two, first was the sensor in the passenger seat always indicated someone there and wanted the seatbelt clicked even when there was no one in the seat. Second was the A/C fan would sometimes only go on either high or off...nothing in between. Kind of lags too much when you floor it.

The 'cons' regarding handling/fun to drive are a bit unfair as it IS a big old luxury car at heart. It does what its supposed to do perfectly. When I have to drive a couple hundred miles+ or sit in traffic I fall back in love with it all over again.

I thought those were mutually exclusive?

The supercharged AMG V8s are loads of fun, the sounds they make are intoxicating and the power is effortless.
