Yesterday I was cleaning my 08 F430 Spider (~4,440 miles) that I purchased about 1 week ago and I noticed that under the car, the front bumper is badly scraped. You can't see it unless you look under the car so its not noticeable from any angle (not even when you bend down). The edge of the 3M clear bra which wraps modestly under the front bumper was installed over the scrapes.

The question is would you complain, have them repaint bumper and re-install 3M? Or is this bound to happen again given how low the car is and its not worth the aggravation since you cant see it unless its on a lift? I am torn!

    What would you do?

I wouldn't do anything personally. I assume you had an opportunity to inspect the car before you purchased it. Also, this is common with low sports cars. Finally, as you mentioned, you can't see it unless the car is on a lift. I wouldn't worry about it.

Most if not all 430s will have this

Very common. You can get it resprayed. Chances are new ones will emerge soon after.

Every 360, 430 and so on has scrapes under the front bumper. As others have stated, you can get a respray, but you will end up with marks again anyway. You could drill into the bumper and mount guards down there, but to me now you just made the bumper that much closer to the ground.
In the end, don't sweat it.

If it's on the black trim paint.. everyone gets it. I just take some black krylon spray paint and cover it up. It's going to happen as long as you have the car. Nobody notices it in real life.

Mine had scrapes on the black part. I filled them with body filler, sanded and painted and looks like new. I would be surprised if they were on the color part of the bumper -- otherwise there would be a lot of damage on the black painted section. Also I'm surprised that they put the 3M film over the scrapes. I just had the wheel arch films replaced and beforehand I had re-painted the areas at the very bottom of the wheel arches where they get the most damage from stones. I didn't fill any areas -- just sanded and repainted with color. My EXPEL guy said he couldn't apply the film over those areas as it wouldn't stay put -- he needed a smooth surface.

Its on the colored part of the bumper under the car. The outside edge of 3M is over the scrapes...

Seems from what everyone is saying, the scrapes under the bumper where the color paint is located is very common given how low the car is. Feeling better that this isn't just a badly used car I bought! I did check the sides of the car and no scrapes. So just the bottom of the painted part of the bumper. Was concerned the car was used excessively by the other owner despite having only 4400 miles. But this doesn't seem to be the case given everyone's reply on how common scrapes under the bumper are

My 360 has scrapes on the color as well. Guards are installed and they have scrapes too. Can't see'em from where I'm standing...

Sounds like the previous owner was hitting some high speed bumps (that doesn't sound right does it -- I mean speed bumps that are high :) ) to get the painted area scratched.

It will happen again so don't sweat it. You'll be driving somewhere and miss a bump or misjudge a driveway or ramp and then scrape again.

+ that. I have both sides scrapped after mis judging the LA pot holes. Corrupt city with no street carpetting for over a decade.

Wait till you see how Ferrari attached the bottom of the front bumper to the undercarriage!
On the 360 they used self tapping wood screws and I believe the same on the 430's. Totally redesigned mine.

Thanks guys. I feel better. Never had this issue in my 911 (991). Nice to see this wasn't a dealer pulling a fast one and not repairing what they should have.

Never thought I'd see even ONE member having a problem with this. Big deal... it's underneath where it can't be seen! The seller isn't responsible unless you did not visually inspect the car yourself and asked specifically about this area of the car.

It is a half big deal :) Eventually its possible you wear a hole through the fiberglass if you keep doing it and don't repair occasionally. Both sides of my front bumper are pretty worn down, just a total guess that I have lost half the thickness of glass there. (I swear half of the wear for my car has been at my favorite burger joint, that driveway scrapes the front end BAD, no matter how sharp a angle I take it at).

But you are correct, it can't been seen by normal people until they get on their knees and look under the car.

No doubt you paid some reasonable money for your new toy. I have spoken to many dealers that will not sell a car with scuffs on the underside of the bumper. These are easily fixed and painted with flat black paint for next to nothing. They knew it per-existed as the film was put over it. They should do the fix, then you will feel better and be a happier customer Definitely voice your concern I would.
