My car is a 2008 and it has a dealer fitted HGTE pack. Approx $20k back when it was done in 2010. The car was fitted with the HGTE wheels and somewhere along the lines, the owner removed them. (The last photo is when the car had the HGTE wheels on it) Also it does not have the HGTE exhaust and never had one. I personally prefer the Monolithic wheels to the HGTE wheels, however I am thinking that I probably should add the HGTE wheels, exhaust and front grill just to keep it looking like it is a HGTE since it has had the internal upgrades. I am also ordering the 20mm Hill Eng spacers and I am not sure if the HGTE wheels will look better with the 15mm. Decisions to be made here. I personally like the monolithic wheels as well, but probably makes sense to go HGTE if completing the package.
Personally, I love the HGTE wheels. The exhaust is great (IMHO) but the sway bar and internals are more important to handling. You would spend a lot for HGTE wheels so they may not make sense for you. I have receipts from when it was added to my car it was a bit over $27K (as I recall, would need to look). My car already had all of the CF parts so I am only missing embroidery on the seats and I have a yellow tach instead of white. OK, I have a GTO grill as well and I like that better than the HGTE. I guess my point is get the bits you like and ignore the rest. There are a LOT of partial HGTE cars out there and that muddies the water for cars that have everything. If it isn't an original HGTE, there will be a reasonably large margin between your price and the others. That makes it all about what you like/want out of the car.
Part of me thinks that this car was missed on the market as it did not look like a HGTE. I certainly looked at it for 6 weeks and had no idea. Getting the wheels, grill and exhaust puts no doubt in the future buyers mind.
The HGTE front wheels are 1/2"/12.7 mm wider and with the smaller offsets will stick out ~10 mm more than the monolithic rims. Use the same size tires. 599/HGTE/SA Aperta Five Spoke F 19”, R 20”, 5 X 114.3 mm Front 8J X 19 ET 43.5 mm, Rear 11J X 20 ET 63.8 mm Challenge Monolithic 20”, 5 X 114.3 mm Front 8J X 20 ET 43.5 mm, Rear 11J X 20 ET 63.8 mm HGTE/SA Aperta Five Spoke 20”, 5 X 114.3 mm Front 8.5J X 20 ET 40 mm, Rear 11J X 20 ET 63.8 mm
And there in lies the visual issue I have with the HGTE wheels as I have always felt that the rear wheels look smaller than the front and this is probably due to the fronts sitting out wider. It can be seen in this photo. Image Unavailable, Please Login May the Horse be with you
Are you going to change the Rev counter to silver and get the correct seats? I would try to check out exactly what the dealer did. The fact that the exhaust was not changed is a big give-away. Grill, wheels, and exhaust are the basics. Springs would be next and then the interior.
Thanks George, The Rev counter does not bother me as I prefer the yellow and the seats are spectacular. No need to change them for a little bit of embroidery. Yes I have al of the paperwork and on July 1st, 2010 the car had the HGTE pack installed including the wheels, but no exhaust. The price was $24,461.17 and the car had 275 miles on the clock. By the time they finished the install the car had 337 miles on it. There was reference to the handling not being right so they had to correct this. Have you seen the advertisement from Scuderia Smith Motorsport in the classifieds - HGTE exhaust for $3900?
I believe the springs are the same but they changed the rear sway bar and there is a different suspension ECU.
Yes I have. My problem is that I keep looking at photos and I am not 100% on the wheels yet. Thank you
The Monolitic (Challenge style) rims are nice, but they are only casted aluminium rims. HGTEs has (what i know) a forged center, so lighter and higher strength. Daniel
John could get the exact weight of the HGTE rims at the next tire change I think they are between the Monolitic and the AppTec GTO Pentagram F/R : 8+11 Monolitic F/R : 13,95 Kg/15,?? Kg 8,5+11 HGTE F/R : 9,5+11,5 GTO from BBS F/R : 9,16 Kg / 10,33 Kg 9,5+11,5 GTO from AppTech F/R : 10,97 Kg / 11,97 Kg 10+11,5 F12 TDF F/R : 10,2 Kg/11,2 Kg (if i imagíne correct) The rear 11,5x21 inch Monza SP rim has 13,5 Kg, also a forged rim The rear 11x20 inch 812 Competizione rim (new style) has also 13,5 Kg Daniel
It's a special GTO style grille for the GTB. Different to the real GTO grille. Daniel Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, I had asked this question long ago: Monolithic rims - strong HGTE rims - stronger GTO rims - strongest
I dont know about any of the other upgrades but my car has the HGTE exhaust and secondary catalytic bypass and it sounds great! Well worth the price of entry. It came with the 20" Monoliths and prior owner put 15mm and 20mm spacers. Looks and sounds amazing.
I was in at the service center dropping off my Roma today and I saw a 599 with HGTE wheels and IMO it looked not as good as the monolithic wheels. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I feel as though the 599 really needs the Monolithic wheels to fill up the big arches.
