    Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I'm in the process of purchasing a 2007 F430 with 10,500 miles. The question I have is should I do a standard PPI for $250, or a PPI with compression and leakdown test for $500? Is a compression and leakdown test really necessary for a 430 with 10,500 miles.

    Thanks.

I don't think it is necessary, but the additional $250 buys some peace of mind.

No. If it starts fine I would not bother. I recommend getting the checklist of what your PPI fee is buying and reviewing it first - some are a total joke. Typically you will get physical and functional checks (looking for obvious paint overspray and panel fit issues, checking heat and a/c, lights, visual inspection of breaks, leaks, check for any missing items like tools and books, etc) a simple test drive and a scan for codes, which all can easily be done by yourself and for $250 (basically 2hrs of labor at a shop) that is probably all you will get.

Keep your money and by some Ferrari swag (shirt, cap, etc) or the missing car cover that was taken out and placed on eBay.

Check the NY forums and ask for a good guy to do a PPI. They should be able to tell by driving if something is really wrong. There are some really good people to do PPI's. Ask for pics from them doing the ppi.

$250 and they have the hubris to call it a PPI?????

    Thats a good one.

$250 is a complete and total waste of money, unless you place some value on a false sense of security. By the time you are up to $700 or more you might actually be getting a service of some value and then if and only if the person performing the PPI is not just some dude 1000 miles away who doesn't care what happens after your check clears. You need someone who hopes to keep you as a client long term or don't bother spending the money.

I can't imagine who would do a proper ppi for $250? Pretty sure you are not getting what you really need for that price. Do they even have access to the proper diagnostic equipment to check for codes and what ever else it is used for? In the end it's not about the amount paid but the service rendered. Get someone who can and will do it right. If you are not sure what you need done search this forum to find out. Good luck.
