Should I get a new C7 Corvette?

As with any new car model I would wait for the third year of production, that way the basic updates are in, the bugs mostky eliminated and there are different versions to choose from.

 

Corvettes have always been a bargain. The performance and price is great. I don't think there's anything they could do to get me to buy one though. Here are my reasons.

1. Interior - We've been hearing for the last 20 years that they are finally going to have world class interior. It never happens. I'm never going to believe them again.
2. Image - It's got the image of a 50+ year old man with a beer belly. You really do see a lot of guys like this driving them.
3. Not exclusive enough - There are probably 50 vettes in the garage of my building right now.
4. I don't need reliability in my sports car. I have that in my daily driver. Half the fun of having my 355 is taking it to the shop. I also don't need the performance of a vette for my daily driver. I'd rather have something more comfortable for that.

If you can only have 1 car, you're on a budget, and performance matters more than style then this is the car for you.

I also buy Ferragamo shoes instead of other brands that are cheaper and more comfortable. It's the same thing to me.

 

And you wonder why many people think Ferrari owners all wear gold chains!

 

I agree 110% but some people just have to own the latest and greatest version of a product, not that there is anything wrong with that . I just received my new editions of C&D and M/T and and the C7 is pretty sweet and from what I read is that Chevy is attempting to address the interior quality issues plaguing them.

Well, at least you are honest on the image and exclusivity front, but I am not sure how you come to the conclusion that the 355 interior is better in fit, finish or quality than a Corvette. I actually have a 355 and love it, but my god the Z06 wallops it in essentially every objective way and I really don't care what kind of car I am seen in.

Unless it's a SUV or minivan - then call the cops because I have been kidnapped.

Calling out the 'Vette crowd for being older and not in the best shape as opposed to *most* Ferrari owners I've met was hilarious in his original post, it deserved your edit.

And hey, I understand, F-cars aren't cheap, and owning one while young is more of a hindrance than a help. Its the kind of thing Kevin Hedge's Wealth Management would recommend.

No car, or brand is perfect, do your research, and find what fits you. For me, the ownership cost of a F-car excludes it. I can work on my Porsche's myself, and enjoy working on them, and learning about their put together, so the cost is just parts.

I'd stay away from a new 'Vette while I'm young. Stay away from a new anything frankly. When I'm older and frailer and working on a car hurts, a Ferrari or new 'Vette that I drop off at the shop instead of DIMS would be more appealing.

Yeah as a former 355 owner, fit and finish of the interior was absolutely not a strong point. in fact its pretty crappy.

i also have a C5 corvette and its equally as crappy.

 

have to agree with the level of finish with the 355 interior......not one of it's strong points

however.......the sounds coming from behind you @ 8000 RPM......priceless

No, I know. I just thought some of these were pretty funny (everyone was OK so it's OK to laugh).

But, there's a lot of spins here so it shows that when you don't have driver aids in a car, it's easy to toss out the tail.

 

All C6s came with traction control and active handling standard, and they work well. They don't render the car uncrashable, and of course they can be switched off.

 

No shortage of tools in Vettes and, ironically, the perceived demographic of Vette ownership is IMO the single biggest impediment to getting new folks buy the Vette

Well................. I hate to bring it up again. But, my dad always said "you wouldn't want anyone to see you getting out of the corvette, they might think you own it."

Too much power too little skill or brains, I guess that is the vette owner image.
Plus as we can see with all the power and motor in the front once the rear lets go they sure do get squirrily in a hurry.

Happily no one got hurt.

 

Corvettes handle well, are underrepresented in accidents and have affordable insurance as a result. This is usually seized upon by critics to cash out the claim that they are driven slowly by old men. Unless somebody cherry-picks crash footage from YouTube, then we drop that argument and take the opposite tack: Corvettes are a handful and their owners a bunch of hoons!

The level of pointless criticism directed at Corvettes is astonishing - and boring. These are excellent cars. The "Vette owner image" is apparently whatever one wants it to be, so long as it's bad.

 

Agreed. I'm a Ferrari nut, but want one of the new Vettes. All the stereotypes thrown at Corvette owners could easily be thrown at any exotic car owner. It's just silly, and you're right, why so much hatred to the new Vette? Could it be because there's a car that looks as good as a Ferrari, with performance to match? Especially with the Z06 and Zr1's still to come?

I love them both, whether its contrasting a drive between my 67 Corvette coupe and my 68 GTC, or the C6 Z06 and the 550. All good times!
