Had an interesting proposal tonight. The guy who does my paint work for me is fascinated with a new chrome paint launched in the USA. He would love to paint a car with this new paint and has offered to paint my QV with it for material costs only although will take weeks to do!

I have been trying to visualise my car that finish and it does have a certain attraction although the interior would have to be retrimmed from white to something else!

A wild idea, but thought would canvas some views!

yes like that! Except that is actual white gold!

    What do you think?

In the UK we only have one state and most things which are fun are illegal!

Personally, I think a chrome (or white gold or gold gold) car is just plain UGLY, and
an eyesore to anyone who has to look at it. It screams "LOOK AT ME!!!" in a way that
goes WAY beyond the fact a Countach already DOES that. It's the same as wearing
a 12" clock necklace and rings with 2 inch rhinestones.

But that's just my opinion - I realize others may see it differently and that's cool too.

    :)

Do it if you want, but tell your painter it is only upon condition that he do the proper blackout along the sill seams.

I think if the canvas were not so rare, sure.

Countach's are quite rare: I'd do your part in honoring this rare supercar by keeping the colors original. just my .02.

If it were an M6, that's different: Chrome away! Personally I loved the Chrome Murci that 50-cent did a few years back.

It's your car, your money and your ears will have to endure the constant, neverending comments... and oh boy, will there be comments.

Personally, if your painter is so horny to paint something chrome, buy him a Harley Davidson.

    I say DO IT.
    It's just cost of material.
Were you going to paint the car anyway? Because if you do not like it, it's going to cost hardly any difference.
I happen to love the Mclaren chrome-black-shot of florescent red combo.

Will he repaint it for material cost if you don't like it?

I do not know if its true but I heard the chrome paint does not look exactly like chrome and does not keep its luster like chrome, I don`t have first hand expierence with the product , Anybody have a picture of 50 `s chrome Lambo ? we could compare or do a computer made photo of a chrome Countach, it might just be to over the top?

it will end up like other "canvas" cars.... the current owners
    can't wait to repaint them.

i think most of the body panel on a countach is aluminium? so polish it out would make it look reflective and shinny anyway, then fender flares in matt carbon film.

bit like the veyron, i always thought that looked awesome.

Is there an option of Black Chrome, instead?

Personally, I find any amount of overreflective material on a car to be a nuisance, chrome radiator grills / bumpers / etc are blinding and surely damaging.
The shape of the Countach likely prevents this from being an irritant to the driver, fortunately.

Perhaps interesting effects can be obtained through use of a chome-mimic paint treatment in combination with a translucent vinyl wrap?
    Polarizing filters, prismatic holographic films?
If you're going for that extra degree of insane, experiment, be creative :)

    Lol
OK Joe i remember your comments about the lack of black bits on the cills! i was watching the video of my car driving away from the italian car and bike day and think your right...... Can't believe I said that!

After looking at some fo the pics posted, I think I will leave it the way it is. It was an intersting idea but some of the pics make the cars look 'blingy' whereas I was thinking it would make it look more dramatic and show off the lines better

The painter is desperate to try this new paint and think quite a few places over here looking for cars to do! New toy etc....

    thanks for the views

    Paul

    PS
Joe did you get the email with the scans? I asked my secretary to do them. I have hardly been at home and if you wanted higher quality scans I could try and do them this weekend?

It's your car, but you are asking for opinions.

The aluminum under the paint/primer/filler of a Countach is not really nice enough to expose.
