just got my newly acquired 328gts home yesterday. it was good to reunite with an oldie but goodie.....car runs great.

question: am giving serious consideration to painting the targa top, the rear roof spoiler and the lower side skirts of the car from black to red to match with the rest of the body. what does everyone think?

my last 328gts had the rear roof spoiler painted to match w/ the red body and i loved it.

There are a couple of guys who have done it (paint) here on f-chat or at least have pics to post that will probably show up if you need them.

IMO, I rarely have the top on long enough o it to matter =)

    Paint it.

I painted the top on my 348. It really improves the look of the car when the top is on.

Just listen to yourself. If you want to paint it, go ahead. It's YOUR car. If I wanted to, I would without asking.

I didn't even vote on the matter because I agree with Tommy. It's YOUR car, you get to decide. You will get answers on both sides of the fence.

    thanks, guys.

not sure how sustainable the paint will stick to the targa top. can someone post a picture of a 328gts w/ a painted top on?

Tom, you had a 512TR, 360, two Diablos... why did you get the 328? Nostalgia? Driving experience? Just curious, since it seems like a step away from what you've had.

Then again, Fchatter Steve told me that the 328 would be the Ferrari of his 328/348/355/512TR he would keep if he could just have one - but I haven't asked since he got his F40.

I say paint the roof, but not the spoiler.

Tom is (always) thinking about another car !! Always !!

He is probably looking at the D.R., as this is typed.

I would not mind an excellent original glass 308 or Euro 355B.

hi ryan, let the truth be told, like most of my purchases...this acquisition was primarily a product of impulsive behavior w/o much prior planning or forethought. w/ that said, i "did" own a 328gts at one point. she was my first intro into f-world; i enjoyed the ownership experience immensely but quickly got bored and sold it after only four months but like that first love....the thought of hers still lingers in my mind every now and then (oddly enough, it was also the same model year "88.5" and similar color combo). still love my diablos but they aren't very practical as my daily driver.

i am going to also replace the interior cloths of the targa and the back firewall shell w/ tan leather to match w/ the tan seats. the car is near immaculous but this is the one area of the car that truly reflects its age.

    Tillman,
I assume you've changed the louvres to be like GTB ones?
Doesn't the GTS originally have the full side window louvres?

I eventually plan to have my roof painted red, but I'm also going to have the B-pillars painted black. Take a look at the GTB and you'll see why.

I voted to paint it, but you may want to wait a bit and get used to the car as it is. Also, there are 3 options here: roof, spoiler and rockers. I would not paint the rockers. The black rockers make the car look longer, sleeker. Technically, painted spoilers were an option, at least in 1989, but rarely done except on GTB's. The GTB spoiler is also smooth, so it matches better. I am considering getting the spoiler on my GTB painted myself. A neighbor got his 348 TS roof painted after seeing my 328 GTB. It lloks really good, but 348 roofs line up better at the top of the windshield.
