I have been working on this car-is there any logical explanation for the mileage. Maybe it was written down wrong years ago & got fixed years later. Had PPI done & checks out as a 20k car.

    I can't figure it out

    Any input would be appreciated

looks like someone in Waldorf screwed up the comma.

Perhaps further investigating Ferrari Dealers may give a service clue.

If the car was in Maryland, it should have had an inspection when sold.

The auction reports are usually correct. The car is 10 years old so it will be mileage exempt on the the title anyways.

If the comma was screwed up, then it was driven only 300 miles in 4 years.....not likely. Is it possible the Speedometer/Odometer assembly was replaced?

Look at the gas/brake/clutch pedals, the carpet where the right heel rests, and the seat bolster leather. If there are stainless steel pedal covers, take them off and look at the pedals underneath. It will be super easy to tell if you are looking at a car with 85K or 15K.

whenever a car is sold through a commercial auto auction and the miles are unable to be verified with appropriate title work and a corresponding odometer reading...the person auctioning the car and the auction MUST disclose and sell the car as NOT ACTUAL MILES.

The reasons could be the following:

    Odometer reading went over 100K.

Title documents from prior seller was in error and the odometer does not match, (to CYA..auction and dealer simply call it not actual miles)

Went sent to an auction, the seller gets to let go of the car without having to clear any of this up when it is sold NOT ACTUAL MILES. It is up to the buyer to accept and if they want to clear it up if you can.

Carfrax reports are usually delayed 6 months for DMV misreadings..

    Good Luck :)

I'm in Atlanta & the car is in Florida I've been doing the deal over phone & email. I don't want to let out too many details because I fear insulting those involved in the purchase.

I have been trying to justify the added digit but how do I justify the 300 miles in 4 years 1994-1998 then 7000 miles in 2 months in 2000?

Of course I've already negotiated price & delivery. I thought that a car with this low of miles wouldnt require a background check.

The seller did a major service in 2001 & has no previous documentation. I will go to the dealer tomorrow & see what they can tell me. I hope they have a central computer for maintenance to verify one way or the other.

    Thanks
    Mike

I don't know this car, but mine had an interesting history. It was bought by my PO new in 1972, and by 1994 he had put 46k miles on it. Between 1994 and 2001 he put on only 700 miles. Between 2001 when I bought it and now I've put on 8000 miles. So anything is possible!

I think the odometer was changed.
Two readings above the current one looks like too much of a coincidence to be a mistake.

Ferrari of Atlanta won't release info without proof of ownership. I can understand that. I am going to put this burden of proof on the seller.

Thanks for your theories. Ain't nuthin easy

I say bullsh*t. You have THREE repprts of higher mileage. I got spun on a car the same way. You won't know for sure until you own it for a while, get that sinking feling, and regret. Once that happens you will never look at the car the same way. I know...I've been there,

Spun back and unhooked speedos is no sommon on old Ferraris it would make your head spin. And give the OBVIOUS potential problem, then to do it long distance WITHOUT RECORDS is insane.

Every Ferrari owner knows how important records are. If you know where the car resided you should be able to contact the local dealerwith VIN and get a service histrory. I've done it.

The telltale signs is the seat belts which have a label sewn onto them...look at now worn that label is. And the brake handle. And the handle on the inside of the door that you lift to open the door. Look at example after example. I have found that to be the best clue.

For what it's worth...though I was sure the car was not right, two service facilities felt the miles were OK. But they were wrong and I took a hit to get out of it.

Walk dude...get one that lines up and everything makes sense. High mileage Ferraris pass hands through the worst of the worst dirtbags
