Should I replace belts before selling 360?

My opinion is yes, get the car current on all services

Then put the invoices/details in pdf along with SD printouts, prior service records, carfax, window sticker (if you have it) or build sheet print out from dealer if you don't, warranty/campaign print out from dealer and any other documents and have it ready to go for potential buyers.

I was just quoted $1600 by two different F-car dealers for 360 belts. I'm sure cost varies and some indy service guys are cheaper.

 

From a "soon to be" Ferrari owner, (I hope) I think I would prefer to buy a car that appears to have been well maintained by a reputable shop. That being said, I think you'll get more activity by selling a car with new belts, etc. Just my .02

 

It may not be logical, but many would buyers will not consider a car with major service due. I think it is fear if the unknown.

I am looking for a 360 myself. I want one that is current, service wise. The market for a 2000 360 seems to be $65k - $75k. (Dealers are as high as $90k)

 

After quite a bit of searching I purchased a 2001 360F1 Coupe Red/Black with quite a few options for $66500.00. It had 26000 miles on it. It needs a belt service in about 1500 miles so the seller discounted the car $1500 for that (originally was asking $71000, negotiated car to $67500 minus the $1500 for belt service).
I would do the service, it was important to me to know the service history of car.

 

In a way, it is like a house; most folks want move in ready and want a few years of use before investing any more.

I know when I bought, I would not consider anything less than a currently maintained car and was willing to pay for that.

I think you will end up getting bargain hunters that will just keep throwing the maintenance issue at you so that you give the car away.

In this market, I would not have any negatives. There's a lot to choose from.

A well maintained car is going to be better appreciated than one with any issues.

One way or the other, the issue is going to come up and cost you money -- either in a discount request from the potential buyer or in paying for it yourself. Your only hope is finding a chap who knows nothing about the maintenance schedule or wants to do it himself.

I think that's unlikely.

 

Do the service. Most buyers want to negotiate $3k for every $2k the car needs because of the hassle of doing it themselves. Make sure your car has "no excuses".

Out of curiosity, is it a 6spd manual?? I am looking for a 3-pedal car.

 

I have the best solution for you: You'll have to take the car to a Ferrari dealership for a PPI anyway, so I'd keep using the car until belts are due, and just advertise the car with brand new belts at the time of purchase (after PPI), or when due (June), whichever comes first. I rather have brand new belts when buying the car than a few months old, as time limitation (3 yrs) usually kicks in before mileage limitation (15K miles) on those cars. Good luck man.

I have only seen one other 360 with a factory sun roof. I believe it was one of the rarest options and many think that they are after market. The factory option was trapezoid-ish shaped (like yours) and is a cool feature IMO. I was told that you do lose some head room though.

70k is probably a decent number for the car considering it has records, good miles, and good options. Things that hold this car back from getting more money is the year and exterior color.

 

You should absolutely do ALL service, and show it. I came very close to closing on a 360, when I found out there was no service on it I walked away and bought a 430 Spider instead. It cost me an extra 50k, but it was probably worth it.

I know for a fact, had this thing been serviced up to date I would have bought it, knowing the service on a 360 is necessary and expensive.

 

I think your car is beautiful. FWIW, I was offered a bank repo'd Nero 2002 360 from Cauley Ferrari about 2 months ago for $70k as the first sale offer by the dealer, but it had ~22k miles I think and was not as clean looking as your car. That price did include fresh belts, brakes, tires, and clutch, however.

Cool, I have a Sunroof car also. This is the first Black Sunroof car I have seen yet.

I love the roof in mine, it really is a cool option.
$70k sounds like a good number.

BTW, If you know a car dealer in Florida that can let you run it in the auction it will bring 65k + there.(no service needed) Sale fee is around 700-1000 depending on the sale. Plus what you would pay the dealer.

 

Nice car, you don't see too many 360's in black. It was very interesting the other day there were 2 360's near each other one Giallo one Rossa. strangely the giallo looked a bigger car and my wife asked is that a different model. Similarly in black I think the 360 looks smaller in size.

 

Really good looking car. Get the service done. When i buy a car, the last thing i want to do is to have to give it back to the dealer for however long. Its a tease. You finally got the car, but now have to deal with it being in the shop. Buyers want no hassle, No postponements in something they cant do without! What are you replacing it with?

 

Maybe I'm just a geek, but as a buyer this would appeal to me. good idea.

As someone who is in the buying process, do the service. When I look at a car with service due, i start wondering what else was neglected or abused.

 

Yes that's a factory sunroof and it is the removable type.
