I'm kicking around the idea of selling my 348 Specalie in the upcoming year mainly due to the fact that I want to get out before another major becomes due (3 more years to go using the 5 year standard) and I just don't get enough use out of the car. Can anyone talk me out of it?

Nope, you obviously don't want to spend the bucks in the future, so sell it now. You can reap the monies from it recently having had belt service. If you hold off for 3 years when service is due again, any buyer will probably want to deduct the cost of service from your asking price.

I think someone would have to be nuts to voluntarily sell an exotic car in this economy. You'll take it right up the rear. It's a buyer's market right now.

I'd keep it. You're probably going to take a beating if you sell it now. Drive it the next three years, do the belt service when it's due, and hopefully by then, the economy will have recovered a little bit, and you'll be able to sell it for a little more than you can now, thus offsetting the cost of the service. All while getting some enjoyment out of it for the next three years.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. While I am not eager to sell in this economy, I do have the advantage of having bought in this economy as well or perhaps I'm deluding myself into thinking I could sell the car. Which begs the follow up question. Does anyone see these cars increasing in value (even slightly) over the course of the next three years? I can't imagine I’ll recoup the cost of another major if I wait to sell until after the next one.

Agreed, I don't see the 348 increasing in value over the next 3 years to recouping the cost of another major.

Difficult question to answer. I expect interest rates to increase in the future to abate inflation. You could enjoy it for 3 years, have the belts replaced and enjoy it for another 5 years. Certainly in the 3-8 years, to price will go up. How much is a big question. I think the question really is are you enjoying the car or would you enjoy the $$ from the sale more?

You might be in the wrong forum posting this question. After all your 348 would probably be sold to somebody in the US as opposed to just Chicagoland.

I would ask the question in the 348 forum.

Also the fact that yours is a Speciale changes the pricing somewhat. FORZA recently reviewed all the modern Ferraris (incl. 348) and their price curve. You might want to look that up.

Somehow I feel this is ultimately not a financially driven decision (to keep it for a few years or sell it now), but rather one done with the heart. The financial pros and cons probably weigh each other out.

If you have to ask us if you should sell your car, I'm thinking that you already know that you don't want to but you're looking (in the wrong place) for someone to tell you it makes sense to sell.

Sell it if you need the money, can't afford it or want a different car. I'm pretty sure that everyone here knows that you (almost) always take a financial beating when it comes to exotics. Even when the value increases, it almost never does so to the extent that it outpaces what you pay to have it properly serviced and maintained.

I just chaulk up all the money I pay out on my car as an entertainment expense. Beats spending it on booze and women. Well, maybe it doesn't, but it almost does.

You'll know when it's time to sell.
