I'm gonna put Mrs. DM on now, take it away........ My husband, DM, refuses to let me buy a VESPA. I think this is rather ironic, since he already owns a Ferrari Dino and is looking at another perhaps and may be buying something else etc. A Ferrari isn't exactly a cheap hobby and it can be somewhat dangerous. He respects some of you, I guess, maybe all of you, I don't know, but if you could forward your opinions on whether these things are dangerous and not appropriate for for a healthy woman, who can drive a moped, then please let me know. And the whys, too. We live in a quiet suburban neighborhood and there are lots of back roads to get anyone anywhere they really wanted to go. So, I would be moderately safe. We have added a poll. Thanks, Ali
Ali says I'm not allowed to sway your votes. So, vote your conscience, REALLY!! thanks, Mr DM_n_stuff
i'm not sure what chicks who look like hamburgers have to do with mopeds but sure go for it. i want a chick who looks like bangers n mash.
Far too dangerous i think. i would not like my Wife riding around on one of those. BTW maybe you can post a pic of Mrs DM_n and i may think again
Thank you for your concern, Steve. I have some concern for that woman's back - you know - the one that is laying on top of that car? The one in your avatar. I don't have a current picture, but if you ask around, I think there are a few fellows about that have met me, and may or may not have an opinion of what I look like. Again, thank you for your concern.
She's a grown adult (I hope); she can do what she wants. Does she 'allow' you to have the Dino... Here's what could be a picture of the stunningly attractive DM family on a 'Roman Holiday'. Image Unavailable, Please Login
LOL it took me a few secs to work out who you were then the roads where i live are very crowded and narrow and a Vespa would be very vunrable here, but if it is quiet where you are give it a go, but please be very careful if you do.
Nope, she COMMANDS THAT I KEEP THE DINO. She can, of course, do what she wants, I just worry about her out among the crazy Main Line wacko drivers. I've been run off the road when I had a motorcycle, I can see the same thing happening to her. DM
Just an opinion, but I would go for a full-out motorcycle over a moped. Mopeds tend to not get "respect" on the road and if cars are whizzing by you, thats not good. When I've been in Europe, tons of people ride them and cars are more aware and careful of them, but here, nobody looks. If my wife wanted one, I couldn't stop her, but I wouldn't like it and if she was set on the idea, I'd prefer she got a motorcycle over a scooter. On the plus side, it's desirable to wear full leathers when on a motorcycle for protection in case of a fall, and you may find that Mr. DM finds it quite desirable that his wife is wearing full leathers too, just because he finds it hot! Win-win.
NOPE. risk/reward, too much risk for very little reward. More dangerous in your setting than a city. Where do most exotics go to open it up, the country. I will add that a motorcycle like mike says going along as another part of traffic with both of you on it would be ok.
If you want two wheels for all the backroads, bag the Vespa and get a real bike! A 125 dual sport would be perfect! They can be driven as slow as a Vespa, you will ride higher, be more visible to traffic and have more fun! Image Unavailable, Please Login
mmmmmmmmmm................... Leather....................................... Maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all. Oh honey... You get to pick the Vespa, I get to pick your riding attire. DM
This is on the money. Scooters are more dangerous than motorcycles due to their small tires. A much better bet would be to get one of the new Harley Sporsters with a cut down seat. They finally rubber mounted the damn things to where you can ride them, and she'll get all the respect she deserves! Dale
Steve, I'm digging around for a picture. AHHHH... found one when we last went dancing. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login
Do you tell her who to vote for too? I assume she is older then 18. You have your fun, let her have her's. I would recommend that she takes a safety course that motorcycle riders take. It will not apply to a vespa but there is a lot of good info in there. FREE MRS. DM_N_STUFF!!!
If you spend $4K for a new dual sport 125 and keep it in good shape, it will be work $3K in 3-4 years. These are VERY hard bikes to find used and used prices are fairly high.
dear mrs DM, i think you should get the vespa , its not like its a ninja 900 and im sure you would be very cautous while driving. i do hope you will wear a helmet and take a drivers safety coarse. i will even volunteer to be your biker biitch [ no offense intended ] i will wear a tube top and a thong and chaps. but seriously if you get one i think you and dave should both agree on it. be safe !!!!
what he said.. I see no harm in them. Mrs. DM, I believe you should get one, but take it slowly. And by take it slowly I mean do not go on Lancaster ave the first day you get it. Once you feel comfortable driving it, and you work up the guts to do it, then hit the major streets.
John. you will make an excellent biker *****. I'd pay for the Vespa just to see you in a thong and tube top. AS A MATTER OF FACT.....Maybe I'll put the order in right now.. DM
I highly recommend them as I've test several. Never owned an italian scooter though I have owned a scooter but not italian. However you may want to look into a piaggio model they have the cheapest model available at 3300 or the best model at 6200 dollars with a top speed of 96mph. I'm trying to get my hands on one as well!
I bought my wife a brand new 200 CC Vespa GT last year. She also got the full-faced Schuberth helmet, and the rest of the gear. She rode it once. After her first ride, I had a small mc accident on one of my bikes, smashed my shoulder, broke a collar bone, etc. She won't ride the damn thing. Again. Ever. I like riding it to town to get coffee, hang-out, do errands locally. I wouldn't ride it on the highway, or busy 4 lane roads. We live down by the water, and the roads and fairly quiet two lane, 25 mph, residential streets that lead into a village on one end, and a larger town (Nyack) on the other. Within those confines, it is terrific.
