Arlie just posted a new thread, in which he posts the idea that moving P&R to Rossa caused the ranks to be thinned. Everyone agreed with him. Your thoughts?

Lack of fireworks got you bored?

    Maybe they needed thinning.

If you want to argue more just go back to work, people actually pay you for that.

Not Rossa, Silver has access too.

"thinned" was the whole damn idea.

Maybe make the P&R section read-only without subscription?

    Or just leave it as-is.

i think your query might be poorly constructed art. i THINK the question you're asking is whether P&R should be reopened to all users, not just subscribers.

i think it was a beneficial change to shift it to paying subs only.

i think sjb509's suggestion is a great one, though i don't think VBulletin supports that easily.

Shouldn't even be a category on this website. We're here to talk about our love for cars ... not P and R. Two people who do not share political or religious beliefs could find great friendship as fellow enthusiasts. There are no political or other boundaries when it comes to our love for cars. But the moment you inject this kind of discussion into the equation the true joy and reason we visit this forum is lost to hateful words, anger, and controversy. I would eliminate it all together.

I don't know about that. Art and I are about as far apart as can be politically. I have worked on his car and he is still alive. My animus for him can't be that bad.

I think the move to subscribed has toned down the trolling, and the plainly venal posts- leaving, dare I say it, some intelligent discussions and informative debates. True, it is no longer a bash-o-rama, or pure entertainment for its own sake, but it does serve a purpose. It's hard, when you hang around here long enough, and don't feel like participating in a 'paddle shifter v. stick' debate for the umpteenth time, not to discuss matters of topical interest in our world. I say, keep it in subscribed. I just don't know how all the unsubscribed folks that used to weigh in there now get their jollies.

I've been watching this site for over two years, silent, but somebody encouraged us 'lurkers' to reveal themselves. So you'll have to suffer my opinion, here. It seems inappropriate to even have a P & R section in a site dedicated to Ferrari or any other marque. JMO.

This is a common view, the other view is that we're a community of Ferrari enthusiasts, not a community talking about Ferrari.

We are a community of enthusiasts who find ourselves contributing to a "whole" that is dictated and outlined by you. We only choose NOT to discuss Ferraris in sections like p and r because we are given an opportunity to do so. If you were to create a single category called "Ferrari Discussion only" we - as enthusiasts - would be guided to discuss Ferraris only.

You - as the owner of the site - will have to make the ultimate decision yourself. Is FerrariChat the right atmosphere for this kind of discussion? If you think it adds an interesting element and vitality to the site then keep it. If not, remove it. If you're undecided, leave it as is.

    NO!!!!

Leave it in subscribed. Even though I had fun duking it out with the boys in P&R from time to time, I think the move was for the better. There were trolls that only lived in P&R. They posted nothing related to Ferrari ownership, tech, or even just as a fan. So I think this place is better off leaving it were it is.

As for why we had P&R in the first place? Well back in the old school days of Fchat, things got a bit boring around here. After all you could only talk about Ferrari for so long before you became tired of it. The p&r arguing would surface in regular old posts. So Rob made a specific section for it, so that the arguing wouldn't polute the rest of the board. It worked for a while but then it became a problem.

    Leave the sleeping dog alone.

It's always going to be a problem. We're all going to have specific views on some subjects and the occasional need to get on a soapbox. That's life. Try existing in an office without getting a politically-themed email from a co-worker.. it ain't gonna happen.

The one way that I could see a user rating system being useful on a board is in the P&R section.. but only there. Get below a certain percentage and it's an automatic time-out for three days.

Ferrari's are the common bond here but if they were the only thing to talk about we'd only have six forums and 1/8th of the membership. I've noticed that the quality of posts in P&R has shot up but I'm jonesing for some new blood.. We're almost too accountable for our own good.

I posted this response in the, sniff, Rosa section. However, I deemed it worthy enough to repeat here in the Holli Polli section. While most of my fellow club members have their doubts, I believe that it is possible that there might be one or two of you who are capable of rational thought.

    *****

I say no. I don't know what it is about the Internet that makes normally decent people into slobbering juveniles who eat snot from their nose while pulling the wings off flies.

I find all the flaming and what not, on both sides (or maybe it is three sides?) very boring. Geeze, didn't you guys do enough of this as a kid?

Personally, I like to think about topics that have nothing to do with my daily world. As a young lad, I was often called a scatter-brained dreamer. I feel much better about myself today because I now know that it is not my fault. Hi, my name is Dr Who, and I have ADD.

I also like to think things through by writing. It helps to cut through the BS and get to the point. Apparently many of you don't like to think at all. You prefer to engage in cliched arguments such as, "You suck." "No, you suck."

I find it even less assuming that many of you don't get the joke about Art. Art is a trial lawyer. Trial lawyers are trained to argue. The substance of the argument is irrelevant. The only thing that counts is winning. (Disclaimer: In a past life, I used to be an expert witness, and I have taken many of the same seminars that Art apparently has taken. If you know what is going on, the techniques are transparent.)

And don't take this personally, my friend, but Art is very predictable. Regardless of the topic, he blames it on Bush and Republicans. It really is too bad that we didn't have this during the Clinton years. I would have loved to heard Art whine about how the Republicans were picking on Billy Bob.

Back to the point, if P&R goes back to Mob rule, I'm gone. Life if way too short for that kind of crap.

    Hugs and Kisses, Dale
