And the 612/599 one be 599/F12?

Doesn't the 612 have more in common with our cars than with the 599? Starting with the engine?

The 612 has an all aluminum chassis and body (no steel doors) like the 360/F430 and the 599. The engine on the 612 is entirely behind the front axle line, like the 599. The suspension on the 612 also has shim camber adjustments and ball joint connections like the 599 and much bigger steel brakes standard, like the early 599. The Sessantas and the OTOs have the 599's Superfast 1 F1 system, twin disc clutch, and gearbox case. The 612 alarm system is also a modern lithium battery key based system like the 599 and the 612 has digital displays similar to the 599. The 599 is really a shortened 612 chassis with a productionized F140 engine family Enzo powerplant. The 612 was the first Ferrari using 114.3 mm x 5 bolt pattern wheels, like the 599, and 599 wheels fit the 612 perfectly.

The 612 engine and the F1A F1 system and single disc clutch were carried over from the 575M/SA.

All in all, the 612 is much more closely related to the 599 than it is to the 575.

I'll add many of the 599's interior parts are the same or very similar to a 612 such as the HVAC assembly.

612 was the successor to the 456, just as the 599 was to the 550/575. IMO, therefore the 612 belongs with the 599, not the 456.

I agree. I am very happy to be proven wrong with facts, and Taz deals in facts, and only facts! Wish the world were more like that.

It was worth asking the question, though. Because the 612 is very much like the 599 except for the engine, which is very much like the 575's, and almost identical to the 575SA's. And very different, physically and in character, to a 599's.

And - this is an opinion and not a fact - the 612 is quite different to drive to a 599. It doesn't have that hyper-nervous feel which all Ferraris since the 599 have had; that instant turn-in. In this way, I found it more like a Maranello or a 456 to drive. But this is a subjective view, not a reasoned argument.

Darius- Quite a few differences between the Superamerica F133G engine, which came after the 612 engine, and the 612
    F133F
engine. The Superamerica engine was extensively hot-rodded, while the 612 engine relied on manifolding and ECU upgrades. Both claim 540 hp and torque the same as the 575M, but no telling what the real numbers were.
